Remember the Leaked Goldeneye 007 Remake from Last Week? Now You Can Play It

A working build is now available through the use of unofficial emulators

Last week, two-hour-long footage leaked featuring a canceled remake of Goldeneye 007 -- the hit Nintendo 64 title based on the 1997 James Bond movie of the same name.

The footage was uploaded to the YouTube channel Graslu00, and alluded to "the game" releasing this year. How the footage was acquired, and in what form this suggested release would come, wasn't made clear.

According to an old issue of the now-defunct Xbox World magazine, the remake was originally planned for the Xbox Live Arcade but was canceled due to licensing complications.

The footage was over two hours long: it featured the game in its entirety as well as some multiplayer levels

With only a few screenshots to go off of previously, this newly uploaded lost gameplay footage was the first anyone had seen of the project in over ten years -- yet the revelations go further still.

Today, Video Game Chronicles confirmed that the game is now available in a playable state through the use of an unofficial emulator. The remaster features fully upgraded visuals with the ability to flip between the new look and that of the original N64 title.

In terms of playing it yourself, the files don't seem too difficult to acquire -- ars Technica divulged that they obtained the data on a publically available website. They then used Xenia, a popular Xbox 360 emulator, to get the thing running. The single-player campaign is playable in full, but there is no multiplayer component included.

It's been a long time since we've played as the super suave British spy, but if you don't want to deal with leaked files and emulators for your modern Bond fix, IO Interactive is currently working on a brand new 007 title. The game is predicted to release around 2023.
