Sonic the Hedgehog Film Rights Given to Paramount
Sonic the Hedgehog is getting a movie
News by Grayshadow on Oct 04, 2017
Along with Mario Sonic the Hedgehog is one of the most iconic video game characters of all time, appearing on products to insurance commercials. Now the Blue Blur is heading to the silver screen in a feature-length movie but Sony Pictures isn't attached to the project. Now Paramount Pictures has officially received the movie rights.
Paramount gained the fights for Sonic the Hedgehog after Sony Pictures let their lapse well after the project's announcement back in 2014. The project's executive producer is Tim Miller, who directed Deadpool, and Jeff Fowler is directing. They will be joined by Fast & Furious producer Neil H. Moritz, Toby Ascher, and co-producing will be Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons. Writing it will be handled by Evan Susser and Van Robichaux of Upright Citizens BRigade.
Considering that movies and video games don't mix well this could end up going either way.
Sonic's latest game, Sonic Mania, released to massive acclaim and is currently the highest rated Sonic game of all time. Sonic Forces is due out on November 7th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. Those who pre-order will gain access to Episode Shadow.
