Sony might finally be ready to show what its next big plans are. Several reports and new rumors say that PlayStation is getting ready for a big event in September. It could be a State of Play or a full-on PlayStation Showcase. Even though the company hasn't said anything public yet, everything points to an exciting month for fans who are waiting for new games.
A new report that recently surfaced said that Sony is planning a show for the end of September. And it makes perfect sense, Sony has held events in September for three years in a row. In 2022, there was a full showcase. The last two years, there were State of Play shows. Last year's event was when Ghost of Yōtei was first shown, which was a big surprise. Of course, everyone has very high hopes for this year.

Wolverine from Marvel is at the top of most fans' wish lists. The game hasn't been talked about much since it was first shown in 2021. There was only one teaser, and fans were left wanting more. There was no gameplay or new videos. Many people think it's time for Sony to finally get something out after four years of quiet. Still, no one is sure if Wolverine will be ready to go, and as there has been no update, it could mean that September might be too early.
A possible God of War spin-off is another big rumor that has been going around. There have been rumors about this project for years, and more lately, there is talk that it will be like a Metroidvania, and it is said to be set to release in 2026. Could Sony make it official in September? Or will they keep fans guessing by putting it off until later?
Aside from the big names, Sony's first-party games don't seem very strong right now. Aside from Ghost of Yōtei, the next few months don't have many guaranteed exclusives. Big games like Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet won't come out for another year, and Guerrilla Games' reported Horizon Online has not been officially announced. Another option is Housemarque's mysterious game Saros.
Sony has said that they will give us more information later this year, and September would be a great time to show off some gameplay. Then there's the live-service plan. Rumors were going around that Fairgame$ had been canceled, but they turned out to be false. Sony is putting a lot of faith in live-service games like Marathon and Fairgame$, so it wouldn't be a surprise if both of them showed up at this event.
One thing is for sure: Sony has been careful about when and how it makes statements. The company usually only talks about projects that will be out in 12 to 18 months. The only game that didn't follow that trend was Wolverine. If Sony does what it usually does, the event in September could give us a clearer picture of PlayStation's near future instead of just vague hints.
Will the show in September be a cautious step forward or the big moment fans have been waiting for? Will we finally get to see Wolverine, a new God of War project, or something completely different? No matter what, everyone in the game world will be paying close attention when Sony speaks next month.
