Super... Tofu Boy?

XBLA and Steam release Super Meat Boy from developer Team Meat is one of the most fantastically addictive 2D platformers to come out in years. Titled after the skinless protagonist, the game employs infectious small-serving gameplay with levels that quite often end in less than a minute each. Overall, it is light-hearted gaming goodness that most people will find fun in.

Leave it to PETA to try to suck the fun out of it.

It seems that PETA believes Super Meat Boy to be made of animal meat. In what is apparently a retort to the utter existence of this character, PETA posted a parody of Super Meat Boy entitled (surprise) Super Tofu Boy, which is now completely playable and for free on their website. From the character descriptions on the site, their version of Meat Boy is a "vengeful, bloody cube of rotting animal flesh" who was dumped by his girlfriend for the "tasty and satisfying Tofu Boy."

Game developer Edmund McMillen posted a retort to said parody on the Team Meat blog at supermeatboy.com making PETA look a little foolish. Not only did he point out that Super Meat Boy is in fact a skinless boy and not a cube of animal meat, he also claims to have "repeatedly made fake user names in PETA's forum pushing the game at them in hopes something like this would happen." McMillen also used the blog post to take a couple shots at the organization itself.

To put a cherry on top, Team Meat made a twitter post last night stating that Tofu Boy will be a playable character in Super Meat Boy as of the next game update, which is expected to come down this week.

Get Super Meat Boy now on Xbox LIVE Arcade and on Steam for PC.

UPDATE: Moments ago, this update was made on the Team Meat twitter: "Patch is now live on Steam. Play as Tofu Boy by typing in 'petaphile' at the character select screen. ENJOY YOUR IRON DEFICIENCY!!!!"
