The Hidden 3DS

Majesco Entertainment, the guys behind Cooking Mama, have released a new game entitled The Hidden, which gives gamers the chance to fiddle around with augmented reality via the 3DS camera.
For those who are unfamiliar with the term, it essentially takes what you see in front of you and super-enhances it using technology. The most common example people will relate to is in sports where players are circled on the pitch to illustrate a run or play, whereas seen live those circles obviously aren’t there.
Directly relating to the game itself, you take on the role of a paranormal investigator and member of the elite G.E.I.S.T. squad, Ghostly Entity Investigation and Strike Team, and must use your 3DS to scan the very locations you’re in to track, capture and shoot ghosts, the aim being to eliminate the evil spirits that occupy the space around you.
“The new genre of augmented reality is an exciting direction for video games because it combines the real and virtual worlds in an unprecedented way,” said Jesse Sutton, CEO, Majesco Entertainment. “The Hidden is all about bridging worlds which conceptually is a great fit for the ghost hunting theme. Gamers everywhere will get a thrill out of discovering what’s truly hidden in some of their favourite real-world spots.”

It’s time to exterminate this mother pucker!
In order to defeat the supernatural entities you’ll make use of various specialised weapons, including the Plasmatic Disruptor, Ectoplasm Sensor and Spectral Shield, which are all upgradeable and crucial in defeating some of the games trickier adversaries, with some making it a personal mission to follow you and make your life a living hell.
The main features highlighted in the press release are:
“Scanner”: Scan your current area using the Nintendo 3DS camera and Wi-Fi hotspots.
“Tracker”: Hunt for ghosts and pull them out of their world and into ours.
“Shooter”: Hunt and shoot ghosts using the latest in paranormal weapons tech.
“Wormhole”: Navigate through tunnels of another dimension while battling ghosts.
“Stealth”: Avoid being detected by entities that are too great in number or extremely tough to handle with your equipment.
Players can also keep track of all their previously visited places using the games Location History feature that allows you take photos of your discoveries and keeps a running log of your progress through twelve otherworldly missions.
