The old myths keep going in Titan Quest 2, and players who got early access can now explore new lands. THQ Nordic has released the second chapter of its mythological action RPG. It adds the Northern Beaches area, which is a continuation of the original early access content. For many fans, this is a significant step forward, but questions remain about the game's depth and its long-term promise.
According to sources, the Northern Beaches chapter adds five to six hours of new gameplay. However, the time it takes to finish may vary based on how much you explore and do side quests.

People who enjoy speedrunning can complete the chapter in about two hours, but those who prefer to take their time can make the content last much longer. The new zone connects to the opening area, allowing players to see where the story goes next. It also allows players to know where the story threads lead next.
But at first glance, the Northern Beaches might seem too familiar. The visual design is very similar to that of the opening area, with only minor differences between the two zones. The first Titan Quest had chapters that took place in very different locations, such as transitioning from Greece to Egypt. So far, the sequel's early access content has stayed in Greece.
Fans are concerned that the whole game may lack the variety in environments that the franchise is known for. Still, as the new chapter unfolds, landscapes change and evolve, hinting at even greater variety as development progresses.
The update introduces a few new bosses and advances the story, while also altering the scenery. The game's story, voice acting, and music have been some of the best parts so far. Players say they have an unexpected emotional impact on an ARPG.
Some people think the combat systems are still behind, but the writing and acting keep the journey interesting. The combination of atmospheric storytelling and haunting music has been one of Titan Quest 2's most notable features in its early stages.
On the other hand, combat has received mixed reviews. The new chapter continues with mechanics that players are accustomed to, featuring small changes to balance but no significant new additions. The patch notes say that several skills, including the well-known ice shards ability, have been changed to make the game more balanced.
Also, tier four abilities for each mastery are now available. These new features enable players to create more advanced builds, offering them increased options for combat. However, even with these changes, the overall gameplay loop still feels too similar to the original zone, with a limited variety of enemies until much later in the chapter.
Players also want more creativity in the way enemies are designed. The Northern Beaches adds some new enemies, but a lot of them are ones you've fought before. People loved the first Titan Quest because each chapter had its own set of enemies, which made each setting feel different.

Fans are worried that Titan Quest 2 won't have the same sense of progression and discovery if it doesn't have as much variety. The game could get boring if future updates don't add new enemies, even though it takes place in a mythological world.
Itemization, which is an integral part of any ARPG, is still a weak point. Players say that loot isn't very exciting and that new gear doesn't often make a big difference. In the original Titan Quest, unique items, monster-specific drops, and set pieces often made characters much stronger and more likely to survive. Each time players found one, they were excited.
But in the current version of Titan Quest 2, drops often don't feel very exciting, so players don't get the same thrill of making progress. The developers have talked about these problems in patch notes, saying that they plan to make big changes to itemization. However, for now, the system is still making many fans angry.
Performance problems have made things even harder. Some players have reported that the game stutters, with the screen freezing for a few seconds every 10 to 15 seconds, despite the powerful hardware. Frame rates usually remain the same, but these stutters make it challenging to fight and explore, which in turn makes the game less immersive.
These performance issues are particularly concerning on high-end systems equipped with high-end GPUs, such as the RTX 4090. Before the game comes out, there is still work to be done on optimization.
The Northern Beaches update, on the other hand, gives us a taste of what Titan Quest 2 could be. Even though a dedicated fan could finish the chapter in one night, it adds to the foundation that the developers are building. Players have more to do now that there are new bosses and story beats, even though it's not as full as some people had hoped.
The update ensures that there is at least something new to explore for those who have already invested a significant amount in early access. The most important thing to consider, though, is how frequently updates will be made in the future. The game may struggle to deliver the epic scale fans expect at launch if the developers continue to release expansions of this size every few months.
But if this update is just a small step toward bigger and better things, Titan Quest 2 could still be as good as the myths say it is. Adding more masteries, for example, would make the game much more replayable by giving players new ways to play through old chapters.

The game still has considerable potential, despite some issues. The world-building, voice acting, and music are becoming strengths that people will remember. With enough time, the combat and loot systems could also become very interesting.
Early access is a time to make things better, and Titan Quest 2 continues to do just that. Longtime fans of the series hope that the developers will pay close attention to feedback and fix issues with enemy variety, itemization, and performance in the next few months.
The Northern Beaches chapter isn't a revolution, but it's a step in the right direction. But with so much on the line and the legacy of the first Titan Quest hanging over it, one question remains: will this sequel become a legendary adventure in its own right, or will it always be a shadow of the first game?
Players can now enjoy a few hours of new content, some boss fights, and the thrill of seeing their favorite show get closer to its full release.
