US Games Sales Fall

Video games sales aren’t at their best, in fact in the US sales have fell the most in nearly nine years. This is the fourth straight month of falling sales now and it perfectly reflects the state of the current economic climate.
Anita Frazier, NPD analyst, explains in a recent statement that this level of decline is, “going to cause some pain and reflection in the industry,” and that this is, “one of the first months where I think the impact of the economy is clearly reflected in the sales numbers.”
The main reason for this, as is being widely reported, is the lack of ‘must-have’ titles on the market right now. The top-selling game in June was EA’s Fight Night Round 4, which sold around 470,000 copies on both the Xbox 360 and PS3.
Hardware sales saw the biggest hit, dropping a staggering 38 percent when compared to last June, with only Microsoft’s Xbox 360 increasing its sales ever-so-slightly. It was the PlayStation 3 that dragged sales down the most, dropping 59 percent, the Nintendo Wii not too far behind at 45 percent.
