Valve E3 Surprise Not Episode 3
News by Logan Smithson on Jun 07, 2010
Last week, gamers were greeted by the news that the Portal 2 E3 showing had been scrapped. Not to worry, Portal 2 is still in development, it just wouldn't be receiving the spotlight at the big show this year. Instead, Valve loosely taunted that it was being replaced with a "surprise".
Still without any clues on what this "surprise" could actually be, Valve has shot down many gamers hope of this being the heavily anticipated showing of Half-Life 2: Episode Three. Gamers have waited patiently for the next episodic release of the critically acclaimed first-person shooter series, and have had to suffer through a nearly three year drought. Episode One was released in mid 2006, followed quickly by Episode Two as part of The Orange Box in late 2007. For fans hoping to finally continue to adventure of Gordan Freeman, this news comes as a big disappointment.
However, there is no reason to be dicouraged yet. Valve has proven itself as a high quality developer, and to write them off now wouldn't make much sense. Let's try to make some guesses at what this mystery could possibly be. First of all, for the Half-Life fans, you still don't have to give up. It isn't too far of a stretch to think that Episode Three was cancelled, and instead has expanded into the full game of Half-Life 3. Another scenario could be that Left 4 Dead is seeing another entry to the series, although three games in three years seems pretty excessive if you ask me. Could it even be an entirely new IP from Valve?
It's tough to determine what Valve really has up their sleeves. If anything, this should just give us another reason to get amped up about E3. Think you have an idea on what in the world this "secret" is? Leave a comment below containing your predictions.
