Vince Zampella to Lead LA DICE this 2020, Original Game in Development

Respawn Entertainment is still a recent studio but made a huge impact. After founders, Vince Zampella and Jason West left Infinity Ward, which they created, after disputes with Activision about unpaid royalties the duo went on to start Respawn Entertainment. 

All eyes were on Zampella and West as their previous studio was responsible for creating the modern progression system with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. A system still used in gaming today. Respawn would go on to create 3 acclaimed series Titanfall, Apex Legends, and the recent Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. With Apex Legends setting a new standard for in-game communication with their Ping system. Now according to a report from the LA Times Zampella will be leading L.A. DICE and will likely drop the name DICE entirely.

Respawn and DICE will remain separate studios but Zampella hopes to expand and launch an original game.

DICE was founded in Stockholm in the early 1990s and is home to games such as “Battlefield,” “Mirror’s Edge” and “Star Wars: Battlefront.” But Electronic Arts characterizes its L.A.-based outpost as long dedicated to support for DICE’s core products. Under Zampella, there are plans to expand and launch an original, as-yet-unrevealed game. The company will remain separate from Respawn and, Zampella says, likely will drop the DICE name.

Zampella stated that he's not giving up on his independence but instead will help shape EA's future. 

He continues, “For a small studio to do as much as I want to do, it made sense for us to join forces with EA. In talking to EA, they wanted the influence of me coming in to help shape the future of EA. The industry is changing, and we have the chance to be at the forefront of that. Being able to take on new challenges, like DICE L.A. falling under me now, is exciting. I want to challenge myself. I want to do something bigger and funnerer.”

EA may have a negative reputation with gamers but Vince Zampella's name carries a lot of positive weight among gamers. As stated, Respawn has delivered many acclaimed projects.
