Colorful Deviled Eggs

I encourage you to try these for any occasion. In addition to Easter, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and the Fourth of July come to mind or you can do this to spice up that daily feed bag. Trust me, if you peel a hard boiled egg at work that looks like this, you will draw a great deal of attention.
Here’s what you’ll need to do for the coloring process:
.
Raw whole eggs: Use organic if you can. They are better for the environment and they make for a stronger color in the yolks.
Boil eggs: Start with cool water in a large enough pot that the eggs will not thrash about when heated. You can boil on high heat for 10 minutes or slowly heat water to high heat, cover, and remove after 30 minutes.
Set eggs aside to cool.
.
.
Dissolve food coloring in small bowls or kitchen mugs. We re-used the plastic dishes for egg coloring (non-edible color in that case, so they were thoroughly cleaned).
Take each egg and tap the shells until they are fractured throughout. Do not break off the shell; just crack them about.
Place an egg in each dish, bowl, or cup. Put them in the fridg
e and wait overnight. Or, you could do them in the morning and have them for an evening dish. Either way, it should be about 8 hours.
.
Simply drain away the liquid and start peeling. You can hold under running water as the dye is set and nothing will smudge or come off.
Set on a clean plate and commence taking pictures! Just kidding—well, not really. How can you not? I think they look like spider webs;
Cook’s note: Do not put the eggs on paper towels—they can stick. Just pour water off of the plate and let sit.
.
Slice in half and remove the yolks for deviled eggs. Otherwise, you are good to go from here for dazzling hard boiled eggs.
.
For deviled eggs, mix yolks, mayo, mustard, and hot sauce and sprinkle with paprika to taste.
Place on a nice dish and watch your guests’ faces.
