A brand-new system in Death Stranding 2 allows customization of play style to suit any situation through the APAS Enhancements. Functioning as a skill tree, this system lets you allocate and remove points to power Sam in diverse ways.
This guide explains when the enhancements unlock, how the system operates, and which early and mid-game nodes offer the most significant advantage.

When Do APAS Enhancements Unlock?
Shortly after arriving in Australia, leaving the Plate Gate, and boarding the DHV Mellin for the first time, the main order, Order 9, tasks you with delivering a Chiral Decontaminator to the government base.
Upon accepting the order and completing final preparations, Charlie will inform that the APAS Enhancements are now available, having analyzed actions performed up to that point.
Everything to Know About APAS Enhancements
Browsing the APAS interface for the first time reveals several nodes ready for point allocation. The system functions similarly to the Chiral network, beginning with limited memory bandwidth.
Prioritization is essential, as memory must be spent wisely. Completing main or standard missions causes preppers to level up and award additional memory.

Points allocated in nodes can be freely activated or deactivated at will, provided you remain within the Chiral network's boundaries. Always verify location before venturing beyond the network's limits.
How to Upgrade APAS
Memory for APAS increases by completing missions. On mission completion screens, a memory boost may be granted, particularly when a delivery earns a prepper a new star.
New nodes, however, are unlocked through the returning five-pointed-star Porter system, which also provides passive buffs such as increased carry capacity and access to various APAS enhancements.
The Porter system encompasses five categories: Porter, Combat, Stealth, Servicemanship, and Bridge Link. Memory allocation is not restricted to a single branch, and cross-branch builds become feasible as memory grows.
Activating Nodes
Some nodes require prerequisites. For example, unlocking faster Mule Postbox Hacking demands prior activation of the Weather Analysis Display. Planning must account for such dependencies when Building the APAS tree. Should a build become overly cluttered, holding the triangle button deactivates all nodes, enabling a fresh start.

Best Nodes to Activate Early
In the early stages, stealth remains crucial. The Simple Noise Canceller node moves nearly silent, ideal for sneaking past enemies who can see but not hear approaching footsteps.
Faster Scanner Recharging allows more frequent use of the Odradek for threat scanning—remembering that the Odradek scans wherever the camera is pointed rather than Sam's facing direction.
Additionally, Improved MP Bullets in the Combat tree provide a notable boost to the power and accuracy of MP rounds for dispatching both human and BT threats. This node costs only 40 memory and has no prerequisites.
Mid-Game Nodes to Look Out For
Swift Mule Postbox Hacking accelerates the process of hacking Mule Postboxes, streamlining quick raids or post-fight cleanups. Emergency Vehicle Charger enables Sam to transfer battery power to a vehicle mid-route, extending runtime in critical moments.

Complementarily, the Battery Efficiency Boost node decreases vehicle battery consumption by 8%, offering steady gains. Carrier Handling Boost prevents obstacle collisions when riding floating carriers—handy in terrain unsuitable for vehicles—and requires Skeleton Auto Assist for balance maintenance.
Finally, the Proximity Scanner in the Stealth tree automatically detects nearby enemies within 20 meters, displaying their silhouettes and reducing the need for manual scanning.
