Fast travel in Death Stranding 2 drastically reduces traversal time across vast and often hazardous landscapes.

This guide shows you how to unlock and use the Magellan, which is a crucial transport ship that lets you move quickly between important places.

If you follow the steps below, you'll be able to get to faraway places quickly and easily without stopping the main plot.

Prerequisites

To access the fast travel system, completion of the twelfth main story mission is required. Progressing through the primary narrative until this point automatically unlocks the fast travel feature, integrating it seamlessly into your journey.

Unlocking the Magellan

Once the twelfth primary story mission is finished, approach the Magellan at any established facility. Interaction with the vessel in close proximity registers it to your transport network.

Note that mere proximity is insufficient; you must board the Magellan itself for full activation of its fast travel capabilities.

Charting a Course

With the Magellan unlocked and boarded, hold down the X button to access the "Chart Course" interface. A waypoint symbol will appear on the world map, marking potential destinations.

Whether aboard the Magellan or not, this function allows you to designate any unlocked hub as your next destination.

Selecting Destinations

For example, while docked in Nudo Del Norte, you can summon the Magellan to Villa Libre or any other previously unlocked location. Highlight the desired hub—such as the Plate Gate or the Observatory—and confirm the selection.

The map marker confirms where the Magellan will relocate, enabling instantaneous travel across zones.

Arriving at the Destination

When the Magellan gets to the marked spot, get off to open up the new place in your traversal network. This action finishes the fast travel process and lets you visit the site again and again without having to meet any other requirements.
