Destiny 2: Renegades Guide | Everything About Equilibrium Dungeon Contest Mode

A Renegades weekly update guide for Equilibrium prep, key rewards, and The Dawning farming.

Game Guide by Ornstein on  Dec 15, 2025

Renegades starts strong with new weekly routines, a fresh community event, and a dungeon launch that changes what you can equip and what you should chase.

This guide covers the most important reset additions, how to prepare for Equilibrium Contest Mode, how the Dark Matter Crystal (Taken) drop works for the Praxic Blade, and what to expect from The Dawning.

Renegades Weekly Reset Overview

The first weekly reset since Renegades introduces several high-value loops that are easy to miss if you only play casually. Weekly Shipments now arrive every Tuesday and deliver multiple rewards, with the biggest draw being the 6,000 credits payout.

Those credits become vital when you are farming a specific god roll and need steady currency to keep focusing and rerolling.

Weekly Shipments and Credit Farming

Make Weekly Shipments a default part of your week. Credits keep your farm moving when you are chasing perk combinations across many drops. A steady income also helps you avoid wasting time on side grinds just to fund another round of rolls.

Special Surge in Portal Activities

A new Portal modifier called Special Surge doubles special-weapon damage and improves special ammo drops. That single change can speed up most Portal runs because special weapons stay loaded and hit far harder.

The Praxic Blade benefits heavily, so special-focused builds become a strong choice when you are farming Portal activities for bonus weapons or seasonal rewards.

Vanguard Alerts and Tier Five Rewards

Vanguard Alerts is a new playlist group in the seasonal hub that offers strong loot for low effort. Activities sit around 300 power, do not require modifier tuning, and stay quick to complete.

The payoff is consistent tier five drops, including special masterworked weapons that come with unique origin traits. If you want efficient rewards without long prep, Vanguard Alerts is one of the best early Renegades farms.

Oath of the Renegades Community Event

Oath of the Renegades is a community event run through a sign-up website. After logging in, you choose a syndicate, select a lieutenant, and then earn points by playing normal content such as Lawless Frontiers.

Progress is straightforward and built around participation and rivalry. There is no in-game reward tied to the outcome, so the main reason to join is to support a faction and take part in the community push.

Equilibrium Dungeon Launch and Contest Mode Rules

The Equilibrium dungeon launches at 9:00 a.m. Pacific on Saturday, December 13. Contest Mode is available for the first 48 hours. Until the first team clears the dungeon, Contest Mode is the only option.

Once a world-first clear happens, normal mode opens for everyone, while Contest Mode stays active until the 48-hour timer ends. This lets you switch to normal for a completion, or stay in contest for the harder clear and its rewards.

Contest Mode Rewards: Heirloom and Dredgen’s Descent

A full Contest Mode clear of every encounter in Equilibrium before the window ends grants the Heirloom exotic weapon and the Dredgen’s Descent emblem.

Heirloom is presented as a crossbow-style exotic that increases explosive power while aiming down sights, and it is shown with an exotic catalyst in official material. Dredgen’s Descent is the emblem tied to beating the dungeon under the contest rules, making it the main cosmetic goal for a timed clear.

Contest Mode Entry Requirement

Before launch, ensure The Way Between quest is at least step two. This is required for Contest Mode entry, so finishing the step early avoids last-minute access issues.

Disabled Items, Perks, and Mods in Equilibrium

Equilibrium launches with a disabled list to prevent broken interactions. Artifact perks Anti-Barrier Sniper Rifle and Kinetic Rupture do not function. The Hunter aspect Widow’s Silk is disabled.

The Navigator exotic trace rifle catalyst is disabled. The Refurbished A-499 heavy sniper rifle is disabled, and the Uncivil Discourse hand cannon is disabled as well.

All Volatile mods are disabled, meaning you can still slot them but they provide no benefit inside the dungeon. More items may be disabled later, so review the updated list before you load in.

Not Swap Modifier Clarification

Not Swap returns with behavior that is easy to misread. Swapping ammo types does not trigger Not Swap. In PvE, the ammo type trigger is removed, along with the orb penalty and the special and heavy ammo penalties.

The important detail is that changing armor stat mods is a trigger. Even a small armor stat change can cause penalties, so lock your build in before a serious run.

How to Get the Dark Matter Crystal for Praxic Blade

Equilibrium includes a rare reward called the Dark Matter Crystal (Taken). When set into the Praxic Blade, it creates a beam of dark light. The crystal has a low chance to drop after you fully clear all encounters of Equilibrium in Contest Mode or normal mode.

Encounters do not need a specific order because each encounter is tracked independently. Progress resets weekly and also resets after each full clear. This means you are not limited to one chance per class per week, and you can farm full clears repeatedly each week until the drop appears.

The Dawning Dates and New Snowball Activity

The Dawning starts on Tuesday, December 16 and runs until January 6. Eva Levante returns, and a new Crucible Ops activity called Dawning Snowball Fight arrives. Weapons and abilities are removed, and snowballs become the core tool, with a snowball super that can one-shot opponents after it charges.

Snow also falls across several destinations, letting you throw snowballs that slow, freeze, and shatter enemies. In Portal activities, the Snowstorm modifier generates snowballs when you defeat combatants.

Cookie Baking with Eva Levante

Cookie baking returns through a quest from Eva Levante. You gather odd ingredients such as Vex Milk, earn Essence of Dawning, and use the Cookie Oven to bake treats for characters across the system. Two new cookies and recipients are added.

Dark Matter Drizzlers are delivered to the Dean of the Ionians, found in Caldera on Kepler or reached through Solo Ops. Peanut Butter Paw Prints are delivered to Archie in the Tower Annex. Loi is not on the standard cookie delivery list, because cookies for Loi are handled separately during The Dawning.

Dawning Rewards, Engrams, and Featured Weapons

The Dawning uses an event hub track, similar to Festival of the Lost and Solstice, with rewards like a shader, ship, emblem, ghost shell, and more. Portal activities can drop Dawning Engrams that contain event weapons.

Three weapons are featured in a tiered format that can reach tier five: Minstrel’s Lift, an adaptive frame Void linear fusion rifle, Permafrost, a wave frame Stasis grenade launcher, and Fimbul Winter Stitch, a precision frame Arc sidearm.

You get one guaranteed Holo-Foil drop for each weapon from the event reward track, and additional rolls come from Dawning Engrams.
