The Identity of the Holy Purifier

The new Paladin class in the unfriendly territory of Sanctuary does not always mean that you have to deploy a big iron shield and then pace yourself to smash down and take care not to be hit by the demonic horde.

The Holy Purifier Configuration is a completely different approach to running the game in the endgame, and it is far more approachable than the hyper-specific mythical items and focused mechanical sequences that many endgame templates depend on, which might feel entirely unplayable in the early stages of progression.

It's a special build rendered for the holy theme that makes your character an optimum ranged spell caster, and you kill a whole screen of enemies from a safe distance.

The simplicity of this design is its main attraction, and, more importantly, there's no mechanical friction in it whatsoever, making it the best for rapidly jumping into the early levels of Torment's difficulty.

You can play the game aggressively, without having to perfectly gear-vault to make it work, and without spending a ton of resources on a gear that will likely be on the hot list soon after that, since your focus is not on offense anymore, but on high-damage elementals that keep rolling after one another.

The Judicator Oath and the Judgment Engine

The driving force behind this configuration is the unique mechanic of the Paladin class: swearing allegiance to the Judicator Oath; the structural backbone is the Judicator's powerful DPS ability, which is taken into account for this class.

Unlocking your sacred paths at level fifteen will make this particular oath completely alter how your base skills interact with the packs of enemies you're picking up. In the Judicator's hands, your basic skills are no longer used for generating resources, but are a means of mass condemnation, applying one Judicator's de-buff to each target struck.

When such marked targets sustain repeated damage or are crushed under your feet, the Judgment mark ignites in a holy explosion, blasting up to fifteen nearby monsters at once. This is a great mechanic to use in content like Helltides or the frenetic wave of the Infernal Hordes, as explosions are a natural part of that content.

When one enemy detonates, the explosion triggers the mark on the nearby enemy, which then detonates a glorious chain reaction of holy fireworks, the size of which grows as the number of enemies increases, and which becomes your main instrument of direct damage.

Spamming Holy Bolt & Ricocheting Demise

The Holy Bolt skill becomes the build's key offensive skill and is the only skill that the build can sustain for an extended period of time without spending a resource bar.

Holy Bolt is a ranged missile that inflicts a significant amount of holy damage to the first target hit, but also creates a line of Faith on impact.

To make this standard single-target thing a weapon of mass destruction, you'll want to work on the Ricocheting Bolt upgrade path first, so that each and every individual thrown projectile will ricochet violently between three different enemies in turn.

It's a fast ricochet combined with a Judgment upgrade you get at the start of your progression, which means that all your hammers do a complete Judgment early, automatically priming large groups of enemies in three seconds.

The skill is a basic generator, so you don't have to worry about running out of resources, unlike other leveling builds.

What's more, the raw cast speed upgrade allows you to turn your character into a fast-twitch battery, startling the battlefield with a continuous barrage of hammers on endless repeat, which will immediately fill your offensive stacks to max and keep them locked in a state of perpetual mayhem.

The Rite of Vengeance is an application of Aura Dynamics

The Holy Purifier setup is one of the most interesting design ideas, and it is decided that you wouldn't have a single core skill left to put on your action bar; all of your skill points are going to be invested heavily into dual utility auras and passive abilities.

As you scale up your attack, you will spread the attack speed and critical strike multipliers through your aura, the center of which will be the Fanaticism Aura, which was traditionally only obtained by spending faith to build attack speed and critical strike.

The build circumvents this requirement by using the exclusive Rite of Vengeance modifier, an incredible upgrade to the aura that changes how it builds up stacks: If you hit someone with a critical strike, it builds up a stack instead of using resources.

With this particular interaction, you shift your focus to critical metrics. As if you hit something critical, there's a really powerful loop going on inside you that exponentially speeds up your casting rate and critical power.

If you have not already assembled your early gear sets, and don't have native critical strike chance on your rings or amulets, you can temporarily switch to the alternative Rite of Humility path until you are able to get the gear later in your game, and then manually activate the aura to give you a quick boost into high damage output before you eventually reach the raw critical strike path later on.

Rising through Defiance and Consecration

The offensive end of the Holy Purifier build is purely about making use of range and AoE explosives, but to get through the more difficult levels, you'll need to create a solid passive defense system as well.

Instead of having to keep timing active parries or relying on inconsistent movement skills, you're saved by the use of a Defiance Aura secondary permanent buff.

This also gives you a massive increase in overall Armor and all-elemental resistances that automatically meet the tough penalties that occur when moving up to any level of Torment difficulty.

The build often spawns Consecration on the ground directly under your feet to add to this defense when you stand still or are on a stationary boss for a long period of time.

This sacred ground is a very stable healing sanctuary, continually replenishing a significant portion of a maximum life pool and creating a continuous loop of Resolve.

It's a double layer of huge elemental protection and passive health regeneration, which makes this fight environment extremely forgiving: you feel safe while resisting powerful projectiles, and your bouncy hammers will destroy anything in the vicinity.

Optimizing Gear, Critical Metrics, and Aspects

The Paladin setup for the Holy Purifier is an itemization that focuses on the few statistics that are important to the character, rather than on the unusual, incredibly rare items that are unlikely to drop.

The number one rule of the game when you're gathering equipment or dealing with the blacksmith temper system is to maximize your critical strike chance, raw holy damage percentage, and attack speed globally for all the slots available.

The faster you can fill the screen with ricocheting hammers to trigger the Judicator Oath, the faster your overall clear speed will be, so it is clear that attacks per second directly relate to overall clear speed.

You must systematically add legendary attributes that increase the damage and explosion radius of your Judge class spells, you must also incorporate procs that rely on lucky hit chance, so that when you successfully trigger a proc, it will effect your attacks and/or defensive power.

The best thing about this gear progression is that it is fully self-contained and quite forgiving, so you can easily get into hardcore content with some simple legendary weapons and a few easy temper rolls that will offer you maximum life and resistance coverage to keep you completely safe.

Paragon Progression Through Law and Sentencing

Once you reach level sixty and start progressing through the next levels of the endgame, your offense will need to be very strategic as you navigate your Paladin through your Paragon system on multiple boards.

In this particular build, you will need to direct your path through the Law, Sentencing, Beacon, and Endure boards in a very optimized manner.

When traveling through these vast webs of nodes, you are looking to quickly get to the glyph sockets in the middle of everything and legendary nodes that boost your holy spell power and widen your chain detonation range; you are looking to avoid the side branches of the nodes.

The glyphs you socket and level into should aim to increase your raw spell damage and make the best use of targets marked with your judgment system.

This focused pathing makes sure that the health pools of superior monsters start to grow to crazy levels in the higher tier levels, and your raw holy damage increases at the same rate; so there will never be a point where you hit a wall when transitioning into the true endgame.

The Heaven's Radiant Fire Charm Integration

The only way to take that special character to the next tier in Sanctuary and secure the place you want in the game's highest tier of purifiers is to complete the Paladin's unique charm set, Heaven's radiant fire.

An unparalleled artifact collection that gives your global holy skill rank a huge, unlimited increase and increases your fire and holy elemental thresholds to a significant degree.

These powerful charms will be permanently added to your character's layout, so your ricocheting bolts and subsequent Judgments will deal damage at a level that will destroy boss health pools. Combining all of these different playstyles perfectly, the Holy Purifier playstyle is a masterclass in satisfying and fluid destruction.

All you have to do is enter a zone, switch on your dual auras and start pounding holy hammers at a nearby swarm of enemies with the entire screen now becoming a gorgeous fountain of holy fire without any need to worry about your resource bar or cooldowns.
