The Digital World has been opened up again by Bandai Namco Entertainment Singapore so that people can get a first look at their newest adventure, Digimon Story: Time Stranger. Time Stranger aims to be both a trip down memory lane and a brand-new experience for both old and new Digimon fans. It has a deeper world that combines Greek mythology with classic Digimon DNA, as well as a new combat system and beautiful new evolutions.

At the heart of Time Stranger is an interesting new story centered around the 12 Olympian Digimon, which are digital gods inspired by mythology and led by Jupiter. The roster includes well-known names like Apollo, Minvon, and Mercuryon. These royal figures aren't just for looks; they're an important part of the story's conflict, which is between your team and Titans, a mysterious new threat.

Titans are normal Digimon that have been twisted into huge shapes with glowing red eyes. This could be because they have been infected or have gone through an unexplained mutation. Their arrival adds a huge threat to the battlefield and raises the stakes right away, teasing a darker, more complicated plot.

The classic turn-based battle system will feel familiar if you've played other Digimon Story games, but Time Stranger doesn't just rely on that. It makes the graphics much better, with things like smoother animations and more dynamic skill effects. Digimon and characters can show more emotion thanks to sleek new models that make them feel full of life and personality.

There are now two types of skills used in battle: exclusive skills and attachment skills. Exclusive skills are unique to each Digimon and have cool cut-ins and voice lines. Attachment skills, on the other hand, can be bought and used by any Digimon, up to four at a time. Unlike previous games, it looks like there are no limits on what gear people can use. This lets them make their own strategies and builds.

The best part? During battle, you don't have to wait to switch Digimon between active and backup slots. Yes, more strategies and less waiting.

This new system, called Critical Point (CP), is one of the most interesting ones. Bosses now gain CP over time and can use extra actions or stat boosts when they reach certain levels. And here's the catch: taking advantage of their elemental weaknesses (Vaccine > Virus > Data > Vaccine) also raises their CP. If you use your type advantage a lot, they might get stronger instead.

You're not helpless, though. Players can change CP by making smart choices in battle that raise their team's or lower the enemy's. It takes elemental matchups in a deeper, more thoughtful direction and makes boss fights much more exciting.

You can now ride through the digital world instead of just running through it. Digimon Riding, or "DigiRide," is added in Time Stranger. It lets you ride some Digimon (but not Rookies) to go exploring in style. The animations are great. For example, when you ride Gankoomon, you sit on his huge shoulder like a heroic pair.

It's not just for looks, either. DigiRide puts an emphasis on friendship and gives exploration more depth, which makes the trip through the Digital World feel more real and exciting.

With the Digivice scanning system, you can explore further and find hidden items and interesting things in the world. A Digimon-run city is where you start the game and where you can buy items, skills, and other things. It's like a central hub that you'll go back to often.

Fans of the series will be glad to hear that the DigiFarm is also back, although the demo didn't show how much it resembles earlier versions. There is also a small card game that can be played to relax between main quests, but not much is known about it yet.

Producer Ryosuke Kihara stressed that these side activities won't change the main focus, which is still the story and training all 450 Digimon in the game.

The main thing that makes Digimon fun is always Digivolution. In Time Stranger, each Digimon can evolve in different ways, which are usually based on their personality. The good news? You can evolve or de-digivolve at any time and from anywhere. You no longer have to go to a vendor. Yes, evolving still lowers your Digimon's level to 1, as it always has.

To unlock some special evolutions, like the Armor Digivolution, you need certain Digi-Eggs. The demo's level cap was set at 25, which means there's still a lot we haven't seen. There are still a lot of things that aren't out yet, like Mega-level Digimon, secret systems, and more.

No matter if you've been a fan of Digimon Adventure since you were a kid or this is your first time watching one, Time Stranger is made to make you feel welcome. As with the player's journey, the story starts with a main character who doesn't know anything about Digimon. This makes the learning curve feel natural.

Even in its short demo, the game feels like a love letter to the series, combining old-school fun with new ideas. Time Stranger looks like it will be the most ambitious game in the series so far. It has beautiful graphics, better combat, deeper systems, and 450 Digimon to bond with.

The game Digimon Story: Time Stranger comes out on October 3, 2025, for PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. This could be the return Digimon fans have been waiting for. It has mythical inspirations, strategic improvements, and a new way to connect emotionally with your digital friends.
