A practical roadmap to agent skills, farming, personality shifts, and late-game navigation.

This guide compiles focused, actionable strategies to help you progress efficiently in Digimon Story: Time Stranger.

You will learn which Agent Skills to prioritize, how the Spirit stat supercharges healing, fast routes for EXP and Yen farming (with and without DLC), how DNA/Jogress Digivolution works in this entry, and smart steps to avoid getting locked out of key rewards.

Prioritize Agent Skills: Start With Valor

Begin by investing in the Valor subcategory within Agent Skills. Certain Digimon and late-game unlocks expect the Valor tab to be fully completed and your Agent Rank to reach 9.

After finishing Valor, work through the other personality-based Agent tabs as some Digimon require entire sections—occasionally all of them—to be filled. These trees also grant powerful passive bonuses that make the early and midgame smoother.

Master the Spirit Stat for Powerful Healing

Do not treat Spirit as merely a defensive stat. In Time Stranger, a higher Spirit increases the potency of healing moves on your team. If you want a dedicated support Digimon, adjust its personality and training to raise Spirit so that restorative skills deliver significantly stronger heals in battle.

Fast EXP and Yen Farming (DLC and Non-DLC)

If you own the Extra Dungeon Pack DLC, you can earn massive Yen—well over a million per minute—once your team is strong enough. The EXP gains there are also substantial. Without DLC, a reliable option is the sewer in Central Town.

Sweep encounters quickly, then reset spawns by moving between floors—such as dipping into the In-Between Theater entrance and back—then repeat.

As your Scan Rate rises, convert defeated Digimon to build parallel evolutions that can Digivolve alongside your main team; stored units in the PC Box still gain EXP. Later, load these units into a target Digimon to transfer bonus stats and experience for powerful growth.

Item Stacks Go Beyond 999 (Display Quirk)

While the inventory UI caps visible counts at 999, you can hold more than 999 of the same item. This can matter when marathon-farming resources in DLC dungeons. Even if the display reads 999, you can continue accumulating beyond that threshold.

DNA/Jogress Digivolution Preserves Both Partners

Unlike Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth, DNA/Jogress Digivolution in Time Stranger no longer consumes the secondary Digimon permanently. After performing a DNA/Jogress evolution, you can De-Digivolve and retrieve both partners. This makes iterative de-evolution training for bonus stats far more manageable throughout your build planning.

Steer Personality Shifts Through Battle Dialogues

Every four battles, your Digimon may initiate a short dialogue. When the Personality Chart overlay is active, a plus symbol appears; your response nudges that marker toward one of the chart’s corners. Use this predictable shift to target exact personality builds—especially if you are optimizing for high Spirit, Attack, or other specialized stat spreads.

Don’t Skip the Digimon Card Game (Ties to Anomaly Points)

While optional, the Digimon Card Game ties directly to Anomaly Points side quests. Some NPC challengers require decent decks, and victories can award you cards they used. Whenever you find a Card Vendor, buy packs regularly and battle available NPCs so you are not blindsided by late-game card checks tied to quest progress.

Watch for Choke Points and Clear Side Quests Early

Time Stranger features several progression choke points that temporarily wall off earlier areas. You will receive clear warnings before these transitions.

To maximize rewards and collectibles, clear your current side-quest list before advancing. Some side quests appear only after others are completed, so keep checking your log to ensure you have exhausted what is currently available.

Buy Key Early-Game Items for Spirit Evolution

Early in the human-world segment near your home, visit the nearby shop and purchase four Barbecue Skewer Sets and three Fruit Tarts—then do not use them. These items unlock Spirit Evolution for two different Digimon later on.

If you miss the early purchase window, you may have to wait until midgame to acquire them, and crossing the second choke point can lock you out of certain Digi-Eggs and Spirits for a while. Stock up in advance so you can unlock these evolutions on schedule.

How to Backtrack Before the Final Battle

Backtracking unlocks right before the final encounter. Just before the last fight, a gate to the In-Between Theater opens access to the Back Room, enabling travel across numerous locations in both major time periods. This system lets you clean up side activities without starting New Game Plus, which is easy to miss if you rush into the finale.
