The A New Song of Erdrick sidequest involves multiple encounters with Zalen across various locations in Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake. This quest unfolds gradually as you advance through the main storyline, requiring specific items and keys to access new areas.

Forgotten Ruins

You can begin the sidequest by meeting Zalen in the Forgotten Ruins. To reach this location, cross the bridge found just east of the Wayfarer’s Chapel. Speak to Zalen here to initiate the questline.

Nameless Ruins

Your next encounter with Zalen takes place once you reach the Nameless Ruins, which are located just west of the Craggy Cave on the western section of the world map. Continue your exploration to locate Zalen at this site and progress the quest further in Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake.

Zalen in Damdara

To meet Zalen in Damdara, you must first advance the main story until you acquire the Magic Key. Once you have the key, travel to Damdara, where you will find Zalen waiting for you. Interact with him to continue the questline.

Zalen in Cantlin

After your encounter in Damdara, you will once again need to progress through the main story. This time, you must obtain the Ultimate Key before you can meet Zalen in Cantlin, which is located in the southern region of the map. With the Ultimate Key in your possession, visit Cantlin to meet Zalen once again.

Zalen in Galenholm

The next step in the quest requires you to acquire the Lyre of Ire. Once you have obtained it, travel to Galenholm, which is situated in the far northwestern part of Alefgard. There, you will be able to meet Zalen again and continue progressing through the quest.

Mark of Erdrick

During this part of the sidequest, you will need to obtain the Mark of Erdrick. Once you have it, you can visit the Field of Flowers, where you will meet a fairy who will help you advance the quest in Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake.

Meeting the Fairies

After speaking with the fairy in the Field of Flowers, your next destination is the Shrine of Rain. Go to the first floor of the shrine and communicate with another fairy there. Once you finish the conversation, your next objective will be to travel to the Western Isle.

Visiting the Western Isle

Proceed to the Western Isle after meeting the fairy at the Shrine of Rain. Upon arrival, a cutscene will play. Afterwards, head toward the nearby tomb to obtain Erdrick’s Helm.

While exploring this area, make sure to pick up the Mini Medal located on the northern pier of the Western Isle.

Returning to Zalen

Once the cutscene on the Western Isle concludes, talk to the fairy located there. Then, return to the first floor of the Shrine of Rain. From this point, travel back to Zalen and proceed to Rimuldar in Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake.

Completing this sequence will conclude the sidequest and reward you with the A New Song of Erdrick trophy.
