Favorite Touhou Fights: Pt2
Games by Pascal Fetuszero on Apr 24, 2010
Welcome to the second edition of my favorite Touhou fights! As with the first part of this trilogy in which we saw the 6th, 7th and 10th Touhou Projects, I will break down the fights into sections by games, along with providing details on the reasons of my love for the boss. This time around though, we get to witness one of the most terrible runs I've ever had against a boss, one of which I promised myself to never ever again face her on the Hard difficulty. Yep, that's right, once again, every videos you will see have been recorded on the Hard difficulty.
While I've had great fun with Phantasmagoria of Flower View (9th Project) and Subterranean Animism (11th Project), my run for my most desirable fight in Imperishable Night (8th Project) was quite.. non-enjoyable. I remember trying to beat Flandre Scarlet back in the days, the boss of the Extra Stage in The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, and while I could never beat her, she was nothing compared to Marisa on Hard in my opinion. So, now that the goods have been somewhat revealed, shall we begin?

9th Touhou Project ~ Phantasmagoria of Flower View
While Flower View is part of the main series, it is quite different as you find yourself fighting your way through a "versus mode" type of gameplay. Basically, you are on the left side and the boss is on the right side. A fully charged bomb dispatches your own self on the other player's screen acting as a boss. I do not have any favorite boss in this game though.. Of course, if I really had to pick one, it would be in the final Episode which I failed to reach on Hard, so instead I decided to present you with Aya Shameimaru, boss of the 7th Episode when using Youmu Konpaku. She is the last one I have reached and beaten on Hard, hence why I captured the video of Aya. I was kind enough to show that I'm far from perfect and left the two first attempts in the video in fast forward stance, while keeping a regular speed for the third and final attempt. I never thought I'd even reach that far, as well take advantage of it. Oh and yes, the game can be played in local multiplayer as well as online with the help of an additional patch.

11th Touhou Project ~ Subterranean Animism
Parsee Mizuhashi is easily one of my favorite boss in the series for the simple reason that she is fun to battle. The patterns are beautiful and once again, it contains flashy bullets, which is an automatic win as far as I'm concerned. She is only the second stage's boss, therefore she wasn't so hard despite the difficulty level of the game. The fact that all of her spell cards are fun to dodge, yet requires a good strategy and good eye in certain circumstances, make this one of the most enjoyable Touhou girls I've battled on the Hard difficulty. What more can I say, she's just a pleasant one! She also has one of my favorite themes in the game which in my opinion, represents well the feeling you get when going against her. I've suffered quite a death where I trapped my own self within her attacks by going left instead of right at the beginning of the spell, but I've learned my lesson and now I always go right first. One more ridiculous death happened as I flew straight into a bullet, but no one's perfect, right?

8th Touhou Project ~ Imperishable Night
Marisa Kirisame.. My worst nightmare come true. Marisa is one of the main characters of the series alongside Reimu Hakurei, the red girl I am using in my videos. In Imperishable Night though, depending on who you choose as your character, you will encounter either one of them at Stage 04. Yep, Stage 04, the furthest I've went in my Hard difficulty videos. Marisa has always been interesting to battle due to the high intensity of colors on screen. Her bullets are shaped like stars and colored like rainbows. While I enjoyed beating her on Normal, boy was I not expecting what happened on Hard. She is a BRUTAL BEAST FROM HELL! SHE IS THE DEVIL! I will never ever attempt this again in my life.. maybe, but for now my promise holds: I will never attempt to fight Marisa again on higher difficulties than Hard. Don't worry, you will soon understand why.
She has beautiful bullet patterns, beautiful colors, beautiful shapes (the bullets, that is) and all of this is worthy of the witch she is. She's a star (bad pun intended), she is everything I never wanted to include as a video due to the pain it was even reaching her, let alone beat her. I managed to do it though, only once and there was no way I'd even think about doing it again to show you guys a better run. I bomb a lot, die a lot and went crazy during the process. Why do I love her then? Because her attacks are simply spectacular.

That's a wrap for part 2 of my trilogy. In my next and final blog in this series (of trilogy, because I'm sure I'll make more of Touhou in the future) you can expect Touhou 12 to make an appearance and 12.5 as well, as they are the 2 new games I have ordered and received last week. This blog and the time in between will hopefully give me some time to record my favorite bosses from each on painful difficulties, though for 12.5, which is a "sequel" to Shoot the Bullet, it'll most likely be a random boss (if you remember, it's the one where you took pictures instead of a regular shooter). On top of this, I will include a special gameplay video of Touhou from my ultimate favorite character in the series, but the difficulty chosen is Normal since I cannot reach her on higher ones.
Sorry David, but I believe there are no surprises for you today as all of these videos have been uploaded for quite some time before finally making it in my blog, therefore I know you have seen most of them already lol. For the rest, you now have even more visual reasons as to why I am addicted to this franchise and why I support ZUN, the one-man developer, in order for him to bring more Gensokyo girls action my way.
I hope you've enjoyed these videos and the first ones as well, until next time, may everyone be happy and have a good time!
