Hades II Guide | How to Beat Hecate

This guide will show you how to defeat Headmistress Hecate, the first boss in Hades 2. The fight is divided into three phases, and at the start of phases two and three, Hecate will cast an impenetrable shield and summon reinforcements that you need to handle before resuming damage to her. Understanding her moves and timing your attacks will help you manage each phase effectively in Hades II.

Phase One

At the fight's start, Hecate uses the expanding and contracting Ring of Fire. You can dodge it by staying out of its radius or Dash in to attack and back out quickly. She also performs fire swipes with her Staff; lifting both Staffs to the side means two strikes, while lifting straight up launches two waves simultaneously. Attack and Dash to avoid damage while reducing her health.

Hecate throws flaming boomerangs that return, which you can dodge by dashing to the untargeted side. She can also summon Clones; hitting a Clone turns it green, and only her real form takes damage. Avoid Clones or identify her real form while managing Ring of Fire, Orb projectiles, boomerangs, and fire breath in Hades II.

Phase Two

Phase Two begins when Hecate reaches about two-thirds health. She summons Witches, which are relatively weak, and introduces a new ground-targeting move.

You need to avoid the targets by dodging out of them rather than misjudging the distance and moving into them. During this phase, her shield and reinforcements will require you to manage additional enemies before you can continue focusing on Hecate in Hades II.

Phase Three

At the start of Phase Three, around one-third of the way through, Hecate summons more Witches and casts a morph spell that acts like a homing missile.

This spell will try to turn you into a sheep. To avoid it, you simply dodge straight into its path, forcing it to change trajectory. After about eight seconds, it disappears entirely, allowing you to continue the fight in Hades II.

Tips and Strategy

To win this fight, you need to stay cool and play safely. Dodging and taking your time are more important than trying to get as fast as possible. You can slowly control Hecate's attacks, Clones, and Ads if you watch her movements and know how to use Dash and positioning well. You will be able to win the fight more easily as you collect more power-ups in Hades II.
