Interviewing Marco Cecilio

People by Tanya on  Oct 02, 2009

Marco Cecilio. I know that most of you aren’t familiar with this name. But when I say ‘canana’; I know whom you can easily picture in the back of your mind. An avatar who is barely found offline and always active all over this site. Who is probably the most active users I’ve ever noted online. He is a great content writer and at the same time an awesome community person. Let’s not waste any more time and head towards the interview.

Tell us about yourself and share something you usually don’t with general people.

Hi everyone, I’m Duncan McLeod and I am immortal. Taking that small detail, I still live with my parents and I am single. However, I am not a lone wolf waiting for the sleeping beauty; it’s just that I feel happy being single and still living with my parents despite the fact that I’m 33 years old. We say something like this: Mais vale sozinho do que mal acompanhado, which means: Better alone that with bad company. I’m also only child, I don’t have any brothers or sisters.

Share something from your personal life? Your hobbies, activities, family etc.

When I’m bored I usually sit down and think of something that can be done to help me pass the free time. When I was younger I collected coins, stamps but since I can’t find the motivation to keep up, I stopped. Like I said before, I live with my parents, but I am a total independent individual. I have my own T.V., car, computer, console, new games and a few other things. Everything was bought with my own effort. I am not the person who says to his own Father and asks for a bike. Since I was 20 years old that I don’t ask money to buy anything I like. From the driver’s license to my musical studies, I got it with my own money. Someone older always said that if you want something, you should work hard to get it. That’s how I fell and that’s how it should be in my honest opinion.

What type of games you like the most and name few of your most favorite games?

Three words: First Person Shooters, FPS in short, I simply love them. I was introduced to the genre when my dad bought the original Medal of Honor and Medal of Honor: Underground for the PS1. Since them, I can say that I’ve played pretty much ALL the FPS available in consoles. Even the ones that aren’t good games, such as History: Civil War. In this genre you have a lot to play since the COD series, MOH, Brothers in Arms, and many others. But there are a few more favorites: Black, MOH: Frontline, both for the PS2. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Resistance: Fall of Man and Killzone 2 for the PS3. However, I play a variety of genres but it’s with FPS that I really enjoy the game.

What is the history behind your username?

Well, I was afraid of this question but I guess it is inevitable. It all started in 5th grade, I was in a class and the teacher asked me a question, I answered canana, but the right answer was banana, I guess I felt embarrassed but there wasn’t anything that I could do to go back in time.

You are also a professional writer, as you are one of the writers of this website. Share us your feeling being a writer and tell us what type of content you mostly love to write (reviews/previews/features)?

Thanks for the compliment, Tanya but I don’t consider myself a professional writer. I’m just a freelance writer that has the privilege to write for a gaming site. I still have a long way until I become a professional writer. What you are going to read now it is something that I haven’t shared with anyone: It all started in 2006, when I joined GameSpot and I was introduced to the internet in general. As you all might know, English isn’t my mother language, so here you have the first obstacle. But one day I thought to myself and said “I have to be different from the rest, someone special, and someone that would be recognized in this small world.” I started to write small blogs about retro games with lots of grammar issues but this was what I wanted, to be different. I checked some articles about writing and I was improving at a very good pace. I don’t consider myself the best one; let’s just say that I’m not bad taking into account that small obstacle. I really like to write the occasional review, I must confess that they are really hard to write because I try to be impartial when writing reviews, example: I might give 5 stars to a game, but I need to say in the review why I gave that score. That’s the hardest part. To answer your question, I like to write about everything gaming related, but if I had to choose: 1st features, 2nd- previews and finally reviews.

You became a Super Moderators in a very quick succession. What motivated you to reach this place?

I was quite surprised with my first moderator promotion in June, 30. But I felt special and at the same time, responsible. It was a great feeling knowing that the ones that promoted me trusted me such great honor. Two weeks later, I became a super moderator. I really enjoy being a moderator at NoobFeed.com.

Name one user from NoobFeed community; who you think is an ideal user. You can name 3 users but not more.

Probably, the second hardest question because there are such great users here but there’s a few that their contributions are remarkable . I would name three. I consider ILIAS as one of the greatest members because he always have a polite answer to everything, he also showed that being a moderator doesn’t have to be the boogeyman by being active in the forums. I also think Tanya has a great potential when comes to dealing with the NF community, always nice, she always answer with a smile on her face. Lastly but without a shadow of a doubt least important than the previous ones: RON, fishdalf, serbsta, they are only one. Without them NF probably wouldn’t see the light.

You’ve remarkable when it comes to unlocking emblems and max level caps for most of the levels. What the secret behind this magic?

One word: Experience. Emblems are very special for me, even the easiest ones and I confess that I have a story about every emblem that I have in my profile. My love for emblems started when I read an emblem guide in another site and in that same day I got 10 emblems! They show something that the user has made: 1000 tags, 1000 posts, 70 poll votes, etc. In NF, I used all of my experience to unlock emblems, and must admit that I usually don’t get wrong with my methods. Leveling up is fun, especially if you know what to do. There’s no secret about it, the content is there, go get it and in the next day you’ll have your max cap!

What is your future plan for NoobFeed and other communities you are part of?

Let’s just say that I have plans for NoobFeed.com, I want this site to grow up, it is only a little child, I want to make it an adult as soon as possible. I am part of other gaming site, l can’t forget it, however when it comes to community, NF beats them all. I want to keep writing for the site, always giving you the best content possible. Also, I want to maintain my activity on the forums, showing our members that moderators don’t bite!

Thank you for your time Marco. Tell us anything you feel like saying to the readers and, have a nice day.

Thanks for interviewing me, it was a pleasure, Tanya. I apologize for the long answers but I wanted to share something more that I usually don’t share. There is a lot missing but I think it's enough for your reading pleasure.
