Marvel Cosmic Invasion is not your typical Beat 'Em Up; it features intricate mechanics that make it unique. However, that also comes with the caveat of systems that are never really explained.

Learning these mechanics can help you be early on, especially when it comes to your survivability, speed, and overall enjoyment. This guide will outline a few essential beginner tips and tricks to significantly enhance your campaign and make it more enjoyable.

1. Playstyle Over Character

Every hero in the game has a level cap of 10. Each of them unlocks their passive ability at Level 5. The passive ability can often be a dealbreaker for how the hero functions, adding valuable perks like resource boosts, enhanced movement, and special attacks.

It's important that you look into a. hero in full from the Hero Lab and feel how the character may progress before committing to one. It will help you develop an overall understanding and ensure the character fits your playstyle.

During campaign selection, there will often be a few heroes that glow on the character select screen. However, it isn't necessary to pick these. These are often highlighted due to them being the preferred character for that campaign. And if any stage feels difficult, switching to these highlighted characters can help progress.

2. Movement Beats Offense

On the surface, it may seem as though the combat mechanics of Marvel Comic Invasion aren’t as intricate, or rather just flamboyant. However, there is more to it than meets the eye.

Movement is essential when it comes to effective combat. It’s important to understand that different Heroes are accustomed to different combat and defensive mechanisms, whether that be being reliant on blocking mechanisms or dodging and repositioning.

There’s another mechanic that many fail to utilize, and it’s the Dash Attack. When you double-tap in the direction you want to move toward and follow that by pressing your main attack, it then creates a fast strike that swiftly closes down great distances between enemies and deals a quick strike that often interrupts their attacks.

Additionally, staying on a different plane from your enemies, whether that be slightly above them or below them (in terms of levelness), can also be a factor when it comes to avoiding many of the incoming attacks.

3. Overshields

If you have played the game, you probably realise that enemies with Overshields then take a lot of damage; this makes the usage of Supers and Annihilates extremely ineffective, making your first objective to break down the shields using light attacks and combos.

Once the shield breaks, utilizing your Heavy attacks and Dual Supers deals more, if not full, damage, making them effective.

4. Progression & Rewards

The Campaign mode is your primary source for XP, Hero unlocks, Cosmic Cubes, and Challenges. Whereas the Arcade mode primarily emphasizes modifiers and challenge runs, it doesn’t really hand out XP.

If you want to prioritize going for Character level-ups and overall progression, it’s essential that you prioritize leveling up by replaying the campaign mission until your preferred Hero reaches at least Level 5.

Additionally, you’ll also want to keep in mind that whenever a Hero is knocked out during a mission, you are better off continuing rather than restarting. Food items can automatically revive downed heroes with enough resources.

When exploring various stages, you’ll also want to be on the lookout for Cosmic Cubes. Each of the missions consists of at least one Cosmic Cube, and you’ll be able to use these Cubes to unlock various perks like lore, skins, and arcade modifiers.
