My New Series
People by Din5193 on Oct 26, 2009
So I've been tossing this idea around in my head for a while, now. Most people on NoobFeed have a little "series" that they do with their blogs; Ilias does movie reviews, canana does YouTube videos, Tanya does interviews, Nirvana has her recipies, etc. So I figured, why not start something of my own? So, I sat down and thought, what am I good at, and what do I like to do? Then it hit me; characters. If there's one aspect of a game I love, it's good characters. And if there's one thing I'm good at, it's studying people. So, why not start a series based on amazing characters?
So, let's start with a series that I found about two years ago; one that struck a chord with me instantly, since for the longest time, I've wanted to become a defense attorney.
Obviously, the Ace Attorney series. And obviously as well, MAJOR spoilers to come. Note that this one will be very long and confusing; the others won't.
TOP 10 CHARACTERS: ACE ATTORNEY (click names for a picture)
#10: Maya Fey (Ace Attorney 1, 2, and 3)
Let's start things simple. Maya Fey is Phoenix's assistant at Wright & Co. Law Offices, and serves a "helper" kind of role in the games; following you around, helping you investigate, helping you during the trials, etc. But more importantly, she is a spirit medium-in-training for the Kurain Village school. Most of the cases in the first three games revolve around her family in some way, and it's often up to the main character, Phoenix, to unravel the mysteries surrounding her family. As far as personality goes, Maya is carefree, childish (despite being 19 years old), and not what you would call "bright". However, beneath that, she is very protective of people she likes, and somewhat vulnerable.
#9 - Kristoph Gavin (Ace Attorney 4)
Krisoph is a good friend of Phoenix's, Apollo's mentor, and an amazing defense attorney. Then all of a sudden, he is found guilty of murdering two people and attempting to murder a third. Yikes. But what makes Kristoph so strange is the fact that he isn't a bad person. In fact, he's quite nice. He is always proper, gentlemanly, and meek. However, he is weak. Seven years before the events of Ace Attorney 4, he forged some evidence for a trial, but was fired by his client. Jealous of the attorney that took his place, Kristoph used the forged evidence as a trap by discreetly slipping it to the new attorney and tipping off the prosecution to the forgery. However, as those seven years passed, Kristoph became very nervous when that attorney began investigating everything that Kristoph had done. Kristoph eventually went insane, and began killing anyone involved with the case, until he is put behind bars.
#8 - Godot (Ace Attorney 3)
A mysterious prosecutor, Godot appears seemingly out of nowhere and becomes very famous in a very short span of time. And, for whatever reason, he seems to have a personal vendetta against Phoenix Wright. With some help, Phoenix is able to ascertain the man's true identity; Diego Armando, an ex-defense attorney and boyfriend of Phoenix's late mentor, Mia Fey. Diego and Mia had been working on a case from a few years back, when suddenly Diego is poisoned, slipping him into a coma, and threats are made against Mia's life. When Diego wakes up from his coma years later, he learns that Mia had been killed two years back, and sets his sights on making Phoenix's life miserable, seeing Phoenix as the reason Mia died. However, the same person that put him in a coma begins to make attempts at taking Mia's sister, Maya's, life as well. Just before Maya is murdered, Diego stabs the assailant in the back, saving Maya's life. Godot is later found guilty of murder, and buries his resentment towards Phoenix before going to jail. Personality-wise, Diego is calm, cool, collected, a little smug (he never wastes any opportunity to fling insults at Phoenix), and addicted to coffee. He drinks 17 cups during every trial, and countless more throughout the day.
#7 - Miles Edgeworth (Ace Attorney 1, 3, and Investigations)
Old friend and rival of Phoenix's, and the star of the upcoming game Ace Attorney Investigations, Edgeworth is a prosecutor who is as brilliant as he is relentless. After his parents were killed when he was young, Edgeworth was taken in by the legendary prosecutor, Manfred von Karma. He was raised to be a prosecutor, and taught to strive for nothing but perfection. Edgeworth stunned the DA's office by quickly wrapping up his first few cases, and soon rumors began circulating that Edgeworth had done unthinkable acts to get a guilty verdict, and he became known as the "Demon Prosecutor". Years later, he faces off in court against his old friend, Phoenix Wright. Surprised by Phoenix's unwavering dedication to the truth (and surprised even more when Phoenix decides to defend Edgeworth when he is accused of murder), Edgeworth takes a break from the courtroom and leaves the country to study foreign legal systems. As far as personality goes, Edgeworth is one cool customer. He is always confidant, relentless, and sharp-witted. After returning to the country, he has a new understanding for justice, and seems like a completely different person.
#6 - Klavier Gavin (Ace Attorney 4)
Kristoph's brother, Apollo's rival (and later friend), amazing prosecutor, and lead vocalist for the hit euro-rock band "The Gavinners". Outside the courtroom, Klavier is a dazzling vocalist/guitarist, and seen as one of the gods of rock. Inside the courtroom, Klavier's wit is as sharp as his voice. Unlike other prosecutors, however, Klavier values the truth above all else. Despite being on opposite sides, he and Apollo often help each other out with cases, and Klavier has even put one of his bandmates and his own brother behind bars (with help from Apollo). Klavier is calm, proud, and somewhat full of himself. But you would be too if you were as big an icon as him.
#5 - Phoenix Wright (Ace Attorney 1, 2, 3, and 4)
(This description covers Phoenix in the first three games.)
The man who gave his name to the first three games, Phoenix began his life as an attorney after being defended in a muder trial by Mia Fey, who would later become his friend and mentor. Dedicated to nothing but discovering the truth, Phoenix's talents quickly became recognized. After his first trial, his mentor Mia was murdered, and Phoenix found himself defending Mia's sister, Maya. After proving Maya's innocence, Pheonix moves ahead and discovers the identity of the real killer. Then Maya decides to stick around Phoenix's office, becoming his assistant. As far as his character goes, Phoenix is brash, quick to jump to conclusions, and extremely dedicated to his job and loved ones.
#4 - Trucy Wright (Ace Attorney 4)
Magician-in-training and adopted daughter of Phoenix Wright, Trucy plays a role to Apollo akin to Maya's role to Phoenix; helping him with cases, helping him with investigations, and just generally keeping him company. She first came to live with Phoenix seven years before the events of Ace Attorney 4, after her father mysteriously disappeared during a trial. Since her mother had died years before, she had nowhere to go, and so Phoenix took her in. She met Apollo in the first case of AA4, where she gave him a piece of evidence that helped him to prove Phoenix's innocence. They ran into each other again when Apollo got a job at the "Wright Talent Agency". Since then, Trucy has followed Apollo around on his cases, helping him whenever possible. Similar in character to Maya, Trucy is cheerful, confident, very proud of her magic, and quite ditzy at times. However, inside, she is still haunted by the loss of her parents and is attempting to cope.
#3 - Ema Skye (Ace Attorney 1, 4, and Investigations)
(This description covers Ema throughout the fourth game.)
An old friend of Phoenix's, Ema has a knack for all things forensic, and someday hopes to become a forensic scientist. At the moment, however, she is merely a detective. She often runs into Apollo and Klavier during her cases, and is quick to let them know that she isn't very fond of them (though in Klavier's case, the way they tease each other makes it seem like she has a crush on him). Throughout the game, she will help you out with crime scenes, and she will use substances such as luminol and fingerprint powder to further investigate. At first, Ema is stern, grouchy, and quick to pout when things don't go her way. But as she warms up to Apollo and Trucy, she becomes much more affable and likable, and even childish when doing forensic investigations.
#2 - Mia Fey (Ace Attorney 1, 2, and 3)
An expert defense attorney, Maya's older sister, and Phoenix's friend and mentor, in both life and law. In her first trials, Mia is very nervous and anxious, but dedicated. As she takes on more cases, she becomes more confident and sharpens her skills. Despite being killed in the second trial of the first game, her spirit is frequently channeled by Maya in order to help Phoenix out with his cases. Most of her career had been dedicated to finding the woman who put her boyfriend in a coma, attempted to kill her, attempted to kill Phoienix, and attempted to kill her sister Maya. The fifth case in the third game ties all of the events of the first three games together, and Mia is at the center of it all. Personality-wise, Mia is calm, kind-hearted, protective, and strong, valuing the truth above all else. However, she is not above using her attractive looks to get witnesses to talk.
#1 - Apollo Justice (Ace Attorney 4)
Main character and namesake of the fourth game, Apollo takes the lead role in the series seven years after Phoenix loses his Attorney's Badge. Apollo is a rookie defense attorney who soon finds himself caught up in a web of conspiracy and murder. After getting his mentor and employer Kristoph Gavin found guilty of murder, Apollo finds himself unemployed, and in desperation (and against his better judgment) takes a job under ex-attorney Phoenix Wright at the Wright Talent Agency. Throughout his work there, he meets Phoenix, Trucy (who is later revealed to be his half-sister), Ema, and Klavier, all of whom would soon become good friends of his, and in Phoenix's case, becomes his new mentor. Personality-wise, Apollo is a near-spitting-image of Phoenix, though more insecure and more likable... though he becomes very irritable when he has to play the role of anything other than a defense attorney (which he finds himself doing often). Apollo's success in court may be attributed to a certain "power" he has. ...Well, "power" may not be the right word. It's a mix of very keen eyesight and a special bracelet. The bracelet, a memento from his mother, is made of a strange alloy that reacts to its surroundings, conforming itself to the exact size and shape of its wearer's wrist, therefore always being a perfect fit. That's where his eyesight comes in. When someone is lying or hiding something, they tense up. Apollo subconsciously sees them tensing, and Apoll himself involuntarily tenses up as well, making the bracelet on his wrist feel tighter. Then with his eyesight, he can pick out body language and involuntary habits in order to determine what someone is hiding.
All done. The next one won't be so confusing or long, I promise. Your picture for this blog is here, see you soon. :)
