My Street Fighter experience!

Games by Koshai on  May 23, 2009

I was in grade 4 when I got my hands on Street Fighter 2 for the Genesis. I never knew what kind of game it is, so I borrowed from my friend. When I first played it, I was in love with it. I preferred Mortal Kombat more than Street Fighter since it was faster and of course the Fatalities. I did not know the moves of the characters except the repeated kicks from Chun-Li and electric shock from Blanka. I liked the whole theme of the game and somehow drove me of playing more and more. I never owned that game. Since there were no Street Fighter arcade machines in Bangladesh, I could realize how fun it was. Well I used to prefer playing beat em up games in the arcade machines when I was a kid, both in the Bangladesh and abroad.

I had Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 for SNES. I gave the cartirdge to my schoolmate when I was in grade 5. After one month, she told me that her brother broke the cartridge. She offered me the Super Street Fighter 2. I refused but still she forced me to take it, maybe because she felt bad. So finally had my first Street Fighter cartridge (indirectly). For 2-3 years of my SNES life, I kept on practicing Super Street Fighter 2 but I still did not know the moves. I did not have access to the net, so it was pretty impossible to find the move lists. I also bought a arcade gaming pad to practice more. I used to keep on circling the direction stick and pressed all the buttons in battle just to apply the special moves. Somehow I managed to know Ryu and Ken's hadouken. Yahoo!! My first official knowledge of a Street Fighter special move. I keep on exploring more and more and finding more moves not only in Street Fighter 2, but also in other versus games like Fatal Fury and King of Fighters and even Street Fighter Alpha and Zero games. Sadly, when I played with my friends, they kept on beating me a lot. It was not the case in Mortal Kombat though.

The time for the enlightment finally arrived. I got my hands on Street Fighter 4 during launch. Such an awesome game. Oh boy, there are move lists in Street Fighter 4. Err, I even have access to the net so I know the moves anyway for Street Fighter 2. Now I love beating the hell out of everyone in XBox Live and collect battle points. It feels so good. There is an arcade machine in our recreational hall in my university campus. Guess what, there was Street Fighter 2 running. I kept on playing there for hours (no coins needed) and accepting challenge from others who wants to play with me. What matters is that this game never bores me whether I win or lose. So many things to explore and so many tricks to find. Street Fighter changed the way I play 2D versus games. No more traditional Mortal Kombat movesets, since the move techniques applied in Street Fighter are used in many other 2D titles.
