Sony has released the biggest upgrade for the PlayStation Portal since its launch. It introduces cloud streaming for PS5 digital titles and implements several enhancements to the UI and gameplay.
This update significantly improves the device. It adds numerous new features for both new and existing users, making the PlayStation Portal feel more like a standalone gaming system. Players can now stream their own games from the cloud. They can also enjoy a better user experience with better navigation, accessibility options, and new social features.

Cloud Streaming Launch for PS5 Games
PlayStation Plus Premium members can now stream some PS5 digital games straight from their own library. This update officially introduces the cloud streaming feature, which was previously tested in beta, to all users who can utilize it.
At launch, you can stream thousands of PlayStation 5 games from the cloud. Some of the biggest ones are Astro Bot, Borderlands 4, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Fortnite, Ghost of Tsushima, Grand Theft Auto V, and Resident Evil 4.
You can also stream hundreds of compatible games from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics Catalog, like Cyberpunk 2077, God of War Ragnarok, Hogwarts Legacy, Sword of the Sea, and The Last of Us Part Two Remastered.
Cloud streaming opens up new ways to play. For example, you can enjoy a game while someone else uses the PS5 console for something else, or you can keep playing on the go without having to keep your PS5 on.
New home screen and UI improvements
The update also adds a new home screen with three tabs: Remote Play, Cloud Streaming, and Search. You don't need a subscription to use Remote Play to connect to your PS5 and play games that are already installed on it. The Cloud Streaming tab allows PlayStation Plus Premium members to stream games directly from the cloud.
A new search screen makes it easier to find any game that can stream to the cloud. Suppose you're unable to play a certain game.
In that case, a QR code will be displayed, showing you how to purchase it through the PlayStation app or web browser, allowing you to play it in the cloud. The new UI makes the PlayStation Portal appear cleaner and more like a standalone app, making it easier to navigate and use.

New Features for Remote Play and Cloud Streaming
The PlayStation Portal features several enhancements that improve gameplay. You can now use 3D audio while playing games remotely or in the cloud if you have a Pulse Explorer or Pulse Elite headset.
A passcode lock protects your device by requiring anyone who picks up the portal to enter a passcode before they can use it.
You can quickly check the quality of your connection while streaming or playing games remotely on the network status screen. You can view the latency, Wi-Fi band, resolution, and download/upload speeds, which allows you to optimize your connection for optimal performance.
You can now buy extra items and in-game currencies while you are playing through cloud streaming. For example, purchasing items in games like Fortnite or Hell Divers 2 makes it easy to access in-game content immediately.
There are also additional accessibility options, such as adjustable text size and a screen reader that can be used while streaming in the cloud. This makes it easier for more people to play.
Enhanced Social Features and Multiplayer Support
There are now game invitations, so you can get invites from friends who are playing the same game while you are streaming in the cloud. You can join multiplayer sessions right from the quick menu. This makes it easier to connect with friends and play multiplayer games from anywhere.
The PlayStation Portal is now a more immersive and flexible device for gamers who want to play both at home and on the go. This is thanks to the new social and accessibility features, the bigger library, and the better user interface.

Looking Forward
The update is very thorough, but there is still room for more improvements. The PlayStation Plus Premium subscription could be even better if it had improved trophy integration for cloud streaming, additional social features like voice chat invitations, and support for streaming platforms that allow you to watch movies and TV shows.
The PlayStation Portal becomes even better and more independent with this update, allowing you to enjoy your PS5 library in new ways. The cloud streaming update makes your gaming experience more flexible, accessible, and fun than ever, whether you're playing old favorites or trying out new games.
