Borderlands 4 features a lot of hidden mechanics, various systems, and quirks that are never fully explained.

Knowing a lot of them can help you prevent a lot of mistakes and progress smoothly. Here are several important tips worth keeping in mind.

Vault Symbol

The vault symbols act as a type of collectable in Borderlands 4. Collecting them can help you check off the completion progress in the game and grant you SDU points.

A lot of hunters don't know that whenever you do get close to a Vault Symbol, a specific sound will let you know that you're nearby.

SDU Transfers

Storage Deck Upgrades are bound to individual characters. Whenever you create a new Vault Hunter, the SDU points will not transfer to the newly created character.

The map discovery will also reset, so every new character will have to start from scratch.

The endgame UVH is long through wildcard missions, and a certain thing that you should keep in mind is that manufacturer-specific firmware will only work when you have the UVH active. Without it, certain firmware will never drop.

Side Missions

Not participating in missions during your campaign can end up backfiring a lot of times. The game uses a system that out-scales players who ignore side missions, meaning enemies will out-level you at a certain point.

To avoid being underleveled and underpowered, you’ll want to do side missions alongside the main campaign.

The game has around 98 admissions, with a lot of them giving you unique rewards, which include certain guaranteed legendaries.

The thing is, not every mission can be replayed in the game, and you are given no warnings about which quests are repeatable and which are not.

To make sure you're not wasting time on one-time rewards, it is recommended that you save the submissions until you reach the level cap of 50.

Vault Key Fragments

Completing vaults requires you to collect key fragments. To make sure they show up on the map, you'll need to collect silo in major areas. Skipping silos can often cause a bug where fragments can be picked up.

Unlocking Vehicle Models

Vehicles can be customised with new models and handling types, and you'll unlock them in two ways: by completing missions or by levelling up to the maximum level.

Additional handling options are earned through manufacturer challenges. Having knowledge of the system makes it easier to unlock all the vehicle upgrades over time.

Some mechanics are easily overlooked; knowing them early makes the game more fun and manageable.
