The world of Silent Hill f can be a bit overwhelming when you first start playing. This guide will go over a few of the basics in Silent Hill f.
Combat
The combat in Silent Hill follows a somewhat similar style, albeit a bit slower, compared to the rest of the series. It can feel a bit limited when the game starts, as your character feels a bit bare bones up until upgrades become available to you.

You’ll be able to perform late attacks fairly quickly, while heavy attacks are a bit slower; it’s good to utilise both depending on what weapon you’re using.
Utilizing Focus Attacks will deal more damage and can potentially stun enemies. To use the feature, you’ll want to use the left trigger to enter focus mode and time the pulse correctly to use that attack.
However, you keep in mind that the focus mode will consume sanity, so you’ll need to manage your attacks carefully.
Sanity is finite, but you’ll be able to restore it at the train store by using consumables.
Utilising dodges and counterattacks can also be especially helpful, but they do require stamina, making stamina a crucial upgrade early on.
Shrine, Faith, and Ema
Shrine as well, plays a key role in your progression in Silent Hill f, as they allow you to talk with your character once you get your hands on ema cards. Ema cards are scattered throughout the Silent Hill f universe and are important for upgrading.
Faithful acts as a type of currency gained by offering items in shrines. Depending on the item, certain items will provide more faith than others.

As mentioned before, shrines will also restore sanity, though also at a cost.
Omamori

Omamori acts as a type of passive ability that enhances your character; you’ll be able to discover them whilst exploring. At first, you are only given one slot, but you’ll be able to unlock more by offering faith and ema at various shrines.
Certain useful Omamori will give you a stamina boost, health boost, and damage bonuses for different weapon types. Locking an early slot, especially early on, will make it much easier for you to progress.
Inventory
You can assign Shortcuts to have quick access to healing or various equipment and utility items, making it pretty handy.
Explore
The world of Silent Hill f is semi-open, which allows you to progress while still exploring a lot of side areas. Using the different branching paths and exploring may lead you to ema, omamori, and other useful items.
You’re encouraged to explore more of the world compared to previous Silent Hill entries and are rewarded for it.
