Top 10 Characters: Fire Emblem
People by Din5193 on Oct 30, 2009
The next installment in my new series. This time, the characters are from the Fire Emblem games; a series that I've known of for about eight years now, yet only began playing about a year ago.
Only problem is, there are so many characters, and a lot of good ones. So, I decided to group some characters together; characters that are often seen together, characters that have things in common, etc.
I've also added some funny or cool quotes from each character. So, enjoy. :) Remember, click the name for a picture!
TOP 10 CHARACTERS: FIRE EMBLEM
#10 - Hector (Fire Emblem 6 and 7)
(The following paragraph describes Hector’s role in Fire Emblem 7.)
Hector: “Me? Don't worry about me. I'm fine. I'm built though, you know. A little too much is just enough for me. But you, you've never been a hardy one, Eliwood. Nor are you used to travel. Go on too long, and you'll collapse.”
Eliwood: “We're all weaklings compared to you, Hector. ...Thankfully, wars are not won by strength alone, eh? We've been sparring once every two months since we were twelve, and of 30 matches, 14 I won, 12 I lost, and 4 were draws.”
Hector: “Erh? I think not! I recall 31 matches-- an even 13-13 split, with 5 draws.”
Eliwood: “Yes, well, you recall wrong. I'm in the right.”
Hector: “Hmph. And what makes you so certain?”
Eliwood: “Whose snoring was it that shook the rafters in numbers class?”
Hector: “Ah, good point.”
The younger brother of the king of Ostia, Hector is old friends with the future king of Pherae, Eliwood (see #9). He meets up with Eliwood while Eliwood searches for his missing father, and decides to stick around to help him out. He is soon tied into a large conspiracy, and is one of the three people with the power to stop the end of the human race.
Hector’s mannerisms betray his title. Unlike other nobles, he is improper, curt, and straightforward. He often surprises his soldiers by speaking to them on an equal level. Due to this, however, he is a very affable and likable commander.
#9 - Eliwood (Fire Emblem 6 and 7)
(The following paragraph describes Eliwood’s role in Fire Emblem 7.)
Eliwood: “You’ve got your work cut out for you.”
Lyn: “Say, could you teach me, Eliwood? Teach me how to act like a lady!”
Eliwood: “You think I know!?”
Lyn: “...No, I guess you wouldn’t. Ahhh... My grandfather must be vexed to have me as a grandchild. My late mother was gentle, well mannered, and beautiful...”
Eliwood: “Well, you’re beautiful, Lyndis.”
Lyn: “Wha--? E-Eliwood! What did you--?”
Eliwood: “Yeah, when we were sparring this last time, I was thinking... The way you move, so like the wind. It was like watching a beautiful dance.”
Lyn: “Oh! My swordplay is beautiful... Right, you have leave to say that.”
The future king of Pherae, and father of the popular Super Smash Bros. Melee character, Roy. Eliwood’s journey begins when he meets a woman from the Sacae Planes named Lyn and rescues a mysterious young girl named Ninian (see #7). One year after meeting Lyn, the two of them and his childhood friend Hector go to search for his missing father, and soon find themselves in a position to stop the destruction of the human race.
Although kind, gentle, and righteous, Eliwood is a vicious and powerful swordsman. Above all else, he values the safety of his people and loved ones, and will do anything to preserve the peace of the land, as he naturally abhors all acts of violence.
#8 - The Whitewings (Fire Emblem 1, 3, and 11)
(The following paragraph describes the Whitewings’ roles in Fire Emblem 1 and its remake, Fire Emblem 11.)
This trio of sisters, Palla, Catria, and Est, are Pegasus Knights under the command of the Macedonian princess, Minerva (see #3). They are first ordered to put down a rebellion led by the Altean prince, Marth. However, during the battle, the sisters are injured, and they return to Macedon with their leader, Minerva. The three sister and Minerva begin to speak of breaking away from the Macedonian army and joining Marth, but this is overheard by Minerva’s brother and the current Macedonian ruler, Michaelis. To prevent this, Michaelis’s ally, Dolhr, locks up Minerva’s younger sister, Maria, in order to keep the Whitewings under his control. In addition, the three sisters are separated and sent to different areas to enforce Macedon’s rule. After Maria is rescued by Marth and Minerva openly begins to fight against Macedon, the three sisters come to Marth’s aid as soon as possible.
Minerva: “Palla, I am truly sorry. I never meant to involve you and your sisters in my personal battles.”
Palla: “Your battles are our battles, Commander."
Minerva: “But our kingdom has fallen apart: sons slay their fathers; brothers and sisters trade blows instead of kisses... I have let Macedon be destroyed.”
Palla: “I do not think so. Nor do I think you should feel troubled for our sake. You are our home, more than Macedon; our true house is the sky around you. We will always serve you, Commander, through thick and thin. I swear it.”
The eldest sister, Palla, is always calm and protective of her younger sisters, and very loyal to princess Minerva. Throughout the events of the games, she develops a crush on one of Marth’s knights, Abel.
Est: “We belong together anyway. When the three of us surround an enemy, we're just about unstoppable!”
Catria: “True...but even so, I like having you somewhere I can keep an eye on you. Ha ha!”
Est: “Hey! What's that supposed to mean?”
Catria, the middle sister, is the more outgoing of the three. Fiercely loyal and extremely dangerous, Catria values the wellbeing of her sisters and leader above all else, even her own life. She soon develops a crush on prince Marth himself.
Est
Minerva: “Very brave of you to undertake such a dangerous task alone. Well done, Est.”
Est: “Hee hee! You mean it? Thanks, Commander! You should have seen the arrows whooshing past me left and right! But I'm a Whitewing, right? So I swooped down and let 'em have it! Just watch, though. I'll find some way to top it.”
Minerva: “I don't doubt it. I expect great things from you, Est.”
Est: “Hee hee! You mean it?”
Finally, the youngest sister, Est. Though she doesn’t act like it; rather than being shy like most youngest siblings, she is cheery, talkative, and confident. Like Palla, she becomes enamored with Marth’s knight Abel. Unlike Palla, she eventually ends up marrying Abel.
#7 - Ninian (Fire Emblem 7)
Ninian: “I don’t think I’m really all that good at talking to people either...”
A mysterious young dancer, Ninian first meets her companions when she is rescued from a band of mercenaries by Lord Eliwood. Her and her brother Nils were targeted by the group “Black Fang”, with the intent of using their mysterious powers to bring about the end of the human race. After parting ways with Lyn and Eliwood, she disappears yet again, and is found floating in a shipwreck a year later by Lyn, Eliwood, and Hector. She is once again captured by the Black Fang while protecting her brother, and later saved yet again by Lyn, Eliwood, and Hector.
Ninian is quiet and shy, but also very affectionate to anyone close to her. Despite being kidnapped multiple times, she feels bad whenever she requires assistance from anyone else. In one of the possible endings, she marries Eliwood and becomes one of the three potential mothers of Roy.
#6 - Caeda (Fire Emblem 1, 3, and 11)
(The following paragraph describes Caeda’s role in Fire Emblem 1 and its remake, Fire Emblem 11.)
Caeda: “Castor?! It is you, isn't it? Must even good men like you betray Talys now?”
Castor: “Princess Caeda? Oh...I'm sorry, but me mother's sick, and the medicine don't buy itself, see...”
Caeda: “So you agreed to fight for the pirates in exchange for coin...All right then. If it's gold you need, take mine. Here, this is all I have. Take it, and go to your mother's side.”
Castor: “But Princess...I betrayed you! ...Ach, I've been a fool! Forgive me, Princess."
The princess of the small island nation of Talys, Caeda is a knight who flies around the skies on a Pegasus. She is also a childhood friend of Marth, and assists him throughout his quest.
Caeda is a kindhearted girl, and is very righteous and calm. Although, she is also occasionally coy and manipulative, and even at one point using her looks to sway the opinion and alliance of an enemy soldier. After helping Marth with his quest, the two of them get married.
#5 - Sain and Kent (Fire Emblem 7)
Kent: "Sain! Why aren't you using your sword?"
Sain: "The lance is more heroic. A knight should look heroic, don't you think?"
Kent: "You're hopeless. If you don't take fighting more seriously, you're going to find yourself on the end of a blade!"
Sain: "Truth be told, I...forgot to buy a sword."
Kent: "Forgot? Or were you simply too busy dallying with the ladies?"
Sain: "Don't be so mad! I'll be fine with a lance. I'm that good!"
Kent: "I'd prefer to rely on your skill, not your empty bragging! Take my spare blade and use it to attack next time!"
Sain: "Are you sure? My thanks, Kent!"
Kent: "You're almost more trouble than you're worth. Almost."
A pair of knights in service to the king of Caelin. At their king’s request, they are sent to find a young Sacaen plainswoman named Lyndis (Lyn), and bring her safely to the king. Yet when they first meet Lyn, they do not recognize her, and they go their separate ways. But Kent soon realizes Lyn’s resemblance to the late queen of Caelin, and so they set off to find her yet again. Lyn is then ambushed by a group of bandits, but before the fight starts, Sain and Kent show up to protect her. They then safely escort Lyn back to Caelin, and later accompany her, Eliwood, and Hector on their quest.
Sain
Sain, although a gifted knight, seems to put more effort into picking up ladies than practicing his swordplay. He hits on pretty much every girl that joins Lyn’s team, often making them feel uncomfortable, and even alienating Lyn at first. He is also very prideful, and will take many risks on the battlefield to impress any ladies that might be watching.
Kent
Kent is Sain’s partner, and the epitome of a proper knight, and also essentially the opposite of Sain. Always calm and kind, Kent would gladly give his own life to protect his leader; Lyn, in this case. He often puts an end to Sain’s attempts to pick up women.
#4 - Serra and Erk (Fire Emblem 7)
Erk: "...I swear, you are NOT the woman I agreed to escort...”
Serra: "What? What's that supposed to mean?"
Erk: "I heard someone was needed to escort a frail Lycian priestess to Ostia..."
Serra: "Yes, and I'm that priestess."
Erk: "Frail? You? Serra, you have no need of any escort to protect you. Even the most hardened criminal would flee in terror after five minutes in your company. I'll return your money. Gladly. Now, will you please go on to Ostia alone?"
Serra: "NO! You’re MY escort, Erk! MINE! You're so clean and tidy. A noblewoman like myself can't be seen without a proper escort. Your personality's nothing special, but you're not bad to look at."
Erk: "I believe that's my line. And I have to take you all the way to Ostia? I only hope my nerves can endure the journey."
An Ostian priestess and her reluctant bodyguard, Serra and Erk first meet Lyn’s group when traveling near the Sacae border. They lend their assistance to Lyn, and help them defeat the bandits that were, once again, after Lyn’s life. After the battle, they decide to travel with Lyn (for less-than-reputable reasons).
Serra
Serra is outwardly selfish, annoying, and full of herself. She treats Erk like a slave, and treats others inferiorly; though this is simply a façade put on due to a traumatic childhood. Inside, she is sweet and romantic, though she rarely shows this side to anyone. Deep inside, she is a frightened, scarred child. Like one of Lyn’s soldiers, Matthew, once said, “You know, she’s not bad looking. If only she would just… shut… up…”. She seems to carry a small flame for Erk.
Erk
Erk is an apprentice mage that was taught by the legendary mage, Pent. Erk is employed as a bodyguard to Serra, much to his dismay, since Serra often goes out of her way to annoy him. After accompanying Lyn to Caelin, he and Serra part ways. Much to his dismay again, he is later reunited with Serra when he joins with Eliwood’s soldiers.
#3 - Minerva (Fire Emblem 1, 3, and 11)
(The following paragraph describes Minerva’s role in Fire Emblem 1 and its remake, Fire Emblem 11.)
Michalis: “Minerva, I have missed you, Sister. Let us embrace one last time.”
Minerva: “Michalis…”
Michalis: “Well? Strike! A moment’s hesitation spells death on the battlefield. I know I taught you better.”
Minerva: “…You will not lay down your lance and walk the right path?”
Michalis: “Don’t be a child. There are no right paths; just mine and yours, two that will never cross.”
Minerva: “Very well. Then you leave me no choice. Embrace you I shall, Brother!”
The princess of the military superpower, Macedon. Minerva leads a team of elite Pegasus Knights known as the Whitewings (see #8). After the Altean prince Marth starts a war with Macedon’s ally, Minerva and the Whitewings are sent to kill Marth. However, they begin to speak about switching sides, and so Macedon’s ally, Dolhr, splits up the Whitewings and holds Minerva’s sister, Maria, hostage in order to ensure Minerva’s loyalty. After Marth frees Maria, she and Minerva join Marth’s army and lead the charge against her brother, Michaelis, and the Macedonian army. Atop the Macedonian castle, Minerva and Michaelis clash, and Michaelis dies, causing Macedon to surrender to Altea.
Minerva is always calm and quiet, but is also a ferocious fighter. Above all else, she is loyal to the people of Macedon, not the government, and is unbelievably protective over the Whitewings and her younger sister, Maria.
#2 - Marth (Fire Emblem 1, 3, and 11) (Marth is the blue-haired man in the front of the picture.)
(The following paragraph describes Marth’s role in Fire Emblem 1 and its remake, Fire Emblem 11.)
Marth: “Alteans and friends of the League! Join me now! Help me set Altea free, and ensure today is the last battle my people must endure!”
The prince of Altea, Marth’s journey begins when his mother and sister are kidnapped by the evil sorcerer Gharnef, and his father and country are betrayed by their ex-ally, Gra. After many attempts are made against Marth’s life, he flees to Altea’s loyal ally, the island of Talys. There he meets princess Caeda, and lives there for a few years, gathering his strength and a small army of soldiers to revolt against Gra. Talys is soon attacked by bandits, and with Caeda’s help, Marth is able to repel them. He and Caeda then set off to get revenge against the king and leader of Gra’s army, Jiol. Marth marches towards Gra, gathering soldiers and crushing any opposition on the way. After taking down the militant nations of Gra, Dolhr, and Macedon, Marth becomes aware of a plot to return the dragons to the world. After obtaining the sacred blade Falchion, Marth rescues his sister and avenges the death of his parents by killing the evil sorcerer Gharnef and the dark dragon Medeus. He then returns to Altea with Caeda at his side, and weds her.
Marth is a gifted soldier, and usually a kind man. However, his calm demeanor fades away when in the presence of anyone who has wronged him or his country. Marth values the wellbeing of his countrymen above all else, even the safety of himself and his family. As he once said, “I am a prince before I am a son or a brother.”
#1 - Lyndis (Lyn) (Fire Emblem 7)
Lyn: “The nomads of the plains do not abandon their fellow tribespeople. Eliwood and Hector are my dear friends... their sorrow is my sorrow. Their anger is my anger. Nergal! In my friends' names, I will cut you down!”
A Sacaen plainswoman, more commonly known as Lyn, and the final surviving member of the nomadic Lorca tribe. Six months before the events of Fire Emblem 7, her home is attacked by bandits, and nearly everyone in the Sacae Plains is killed, including all the members of the Lorca tribe (except Lyndis). Lyndis vows revenge against the bandits, and trains herself in the way of the sword. She then encounters an unconscious man in the plains (your character), and takes him in. As a tactician, the man and Lyndis team up to protect the nearby village from yet another bandit attack, a mere one day after Lyndis finds him. They then decide to travel together, but the trip turns sour when assassins from all over the continent attempt to kill Lyndis. She later meets with Sain and Kent, and Kent informs her that she is, in fact, the granddaughter of the king of Caelin. 19 years back, Lyndis’s mother eloped with a Sacaen nomad, leading to the king disowning her. With her mother out of the picture, Lyndis’s grand-uncle, Lundgren, begins an attempt to assassinate the king of Caelin and Lyndis, thus allowing him to rule Caelin unimpeded. Lyndis, Sain, and Kent rush back to Caelin (and meet Eliwood in the process), kill Lundgren, and manage to save her grandfather’s life. After a year of living in Caelin, Lyn is once again attacked, this time by a rival country. Eliwood, Hector, and their soldiers come to her aid, and Lyn decides to travel with them in order to search for Eliwood’s missing father. She then ends up, like Eliwood and Hector, saving the human race from extinction.
Lyndis is kindhearted and gentle, though she harbors deep resentment towards bandits, nobles, and anyone who insults her Sacaen bloodline (the second of which she takes back after having extended contact with Eliwood). She never misses any opportunity to help others, even if she puts her own life in danger. However, after being separated from her friend (the tactician, your character) for a year, she develops a short fuse and becomes irritable quickly. In one of the possible endings, she ends up marrying Eliwood, and is one of the three potential women that could be Roy’s mother.
Whew... done with that. So, what do you think of this one?
