We Lowkey Had The Craziest Mobile Game Release Ever This Week

Mobile games get a bad rap, sometimes understandably so. This week, however, marked perhaps the most insanely populated line-up of high grade releases ever, but it’s unlikely that anyone noticed, sadly. Well, step aside, usual game community apathy, because we’re here to showcase the next best thing on phones and tablets, so that everyone’s commute and pooping stations can be enriched. First up, let’s see the free games, because we’re in touch with the plight of the poor man.

Pokémon: Magikarp Jump

The proverbial shark has finally been jumped and it comes in the form of a Magikarp. World’s worst Pokémon received its own game that’s all about the fish-like monster creature flopping about as energetically as possible. This title is a fairly simple game that can be played a few minutes, a few times per day. Train the Magikarp to become stronger with limited charges, then go up to milestone battles. It’s also possible to fish for different Magikarp or to decorate a little pond area. Other Pokémon will pass by periodically. Pokémon: Magikarp Jump is real cute and available for free on both Android and iOS.

PES 2017 – Pro Evolution Soccer

Our most avid readers may have noticed that some of us are ravenous when it comes to Pro Evolution Soccer content. Well, now that addiction can blow out into some full-fledged problem, because the same sports experience can now be taken up on the go. Modes available include the dream team collector mechanism. Of course, it’s also just possible to play a solid game of footie, thanks to mobile controls that swipe to pass and tap to shoot. To function, the game downgrades some visuals, but we’ll be damned if the whole doesn’t retain a solid PS2-era look. PES 2017 is available for free on both iOS and Android.

Prison Architect: Mobile

Publisher Paradox Interactive has teamed up with developer Introversion Software to bring their hit, Prison Architect, to tablets. It’s now possible to enjoy the quirky, yet dark, prison building game on the go. Its free model is based on purchasing more modes. Otherwise, the freeform aspect of the game remains intact. Prisons can be built up in custom shapes and it's possible to both heal or hurt the inmates. Prison Architect: Mobile is available for free for both iOS and Android, but is stipulated to be for tablets only.

Skullgirls

Yes, Skullgirls just launched on mobile platforms, through help of social platform Line, no less; how crazy is that? This is a legit fighting game, which are notoriously complex to control, now adjusted to swipe and tap. New players can turn on an assist, while veterans can rely on their knowledge to string combos. The game is chopped up into pieces, with a roleplaying progression model that unlocked things like fighters, moves and so on. Skullgirls is available for free on both iOS and Android.

Harvest Moon: Lil’ Farmers

First up, Harvest Moon: Lil’ Farmers isn’t free; there’s a small €3.99 charge or equivalent. The popular farming sim has been adjusted to serve the younger crowd, to find them where they currently are: mobile. That’s why the game chooses for a standard fee, so it can do away with targeting ads to young children. This is a wholesome game about tending to animals, raising crops and such, after all. Harvest Moon: Lil’ Farmers is available for both iOS and Android.

Lastly, a special mention to Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies, which might be too rich for one’s blood, at a premium tag of €19.99, but it’s the same game, adapted to mobile. Both versions can be found on the Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies site.

Believe me, playing any of these will be leagues better than whatever crap is getting pushed to mobile storefronts on a daily basis. Let’s just say I have firsthand experience with playing some really bad games. Go put some nice games on your phone this week. You deserve it.
