As of now in-game currencies have become one of the most hated additions to video games, more so since the release of Star Wars Battlefront 2. Overwatch is adding a new in-game currency that can be used to purchase esport jersey-style outfits for their favorite heroes.

Blizzard made the announcement through a new video with Nate Nanzer, Overwatch League commissioner, explaining that 12 home skins will be added to the game for all 26 heroes.

Unlike existing skins, these can only be unlocked through League Tokens, a new "monetary support" system for the regional teams. The League Token system provides "the correct" amount League-related purchases to go to teams. This also means that League Tokens will only be used for League content.

This isn't a new concept as other games such as League of Legends has provided ways for games to promote esport teams. However, Blizzard hasn't detailed the entirely of the system. Considering that players have become accustomed to the loot box system and using duplicate currency to purchase desired skins this could cause issues within the community.

Overwatch is now available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
