Activision File COD Film Trademark
News by David on Oct 05, 2009
It seems that Activision was already dropping hints months prior to the official confirmation that the Call of Duty franchise will indeed hit the Hollywood screens sometime in the future. Even Bobby Kotick, current CEO for Activision Blizzard, has confirmed it. Before that, Kotick was already having talks about setting up a Guitar Hero-related reality show, but that is yet to be given the green light.
Activision has already gone ahead to send this idea to the US Patent & Trademark Office, with the actual filing documentation uncovered by a blogging site, appropriately named Trademork. Because of that, Activision Blizzard has successfully protected the trademark for filming Call of Duty, which relates to “pre-recorded movies featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure, music, theatrical performances and/or animation”. This filing was made on September 21, 2009, and has yet to be approved. Although Kotick has declined to comment on such matters, fans already know that a Call of Duty movie is coming to theaters in the near future.
It is only a speculation from lots of sites already, but it could be that Activision Blizzard has already given fans a taste of what a live-action Call of Duty movie would look like though their latest cinematic trailer from the highly anticipated sequel, Modern Warfare 2. The trailer shows the US military fighting through a war-torn Washington D.C.
