Black Ops 3D

Activision Blizzard Inc. has confirmed that their highly-anticipated first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Black Ops will support stereoscopic 3D from launch on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. Sony will perhaps be most pleased about the move as they look to push their 3D and motion sensing technology into a profitable holiday market.

Mark Lamia, studio head, explains the decision, “Once we saw what the technology brought to the Call of Duty experience, what a great fit and how immersive it was, we knew that we had to develop it for Black Ops. Aiming down the sights of your weapons, flying in helicopters, rappelling down mountains, and moving through highly detailed environments are just some of the awesome experiences you will have in 3D.”

Following this there are even more shooters in line for a 3D makeover in the coming months, including Crysis 2, Killzone 3 and SOCOM 4. It seems that combat games are leading the way into what could become a new standard in gaming, if public reaction is positive and technology continues to progress at this alarming rate.

Black Ops will be available from November 9 worldwide, both as a standard game, and as a 3D visual experience, providing you have a truck load of cash to fork out for a 3D-compatible HDTV and an NVIDIA GeForce GPU for PC users, plus a pair of those silly-looking active shutter glasses to complete the ensemble.
