Bloober Team Hints at Ambitious Switch 2 Horror Exclusive Project M
Developers aim to create a dark, disturbing experience that could only exist on Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.

Some of the biggest names in psychological horror games could have something much bigger in the works for Nintendo's next-generation platform. Bloober Team has begun teasing new info about its secretive “Project M.” This is apparently a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive game that looks to take horror games in a new direction.
Not much is officially known about the project. However, as the latest statements from Bloober Team CEO Piotr Babieno reveal, the company is more interested in crafting a horror experience that fits well on Nintendo hardware than in simply porting a generic horror formula to the platform.

Babieno said the business has been exploring how Nintendo’s future platform could alter mood, immersion, and player behavior in ways that PC, PlayStation, and Xbox can’t easily replicate.
The developer is more concerned with how the hardware may instill anxiety and suspense than with how great the graphics are or how technically correct the game is. Questions about portability, controller operation, console capabilities, and the sense of closeness you get with a game have all become very important to the Project M design strategy, according to CEO Piotr Babieno.
Those words immediately sparked speculation about what new gameplay features or immersive mechanics the game would bring to Nintendo’s forthcoming hardware. Babieno also claimed the idea is not to make Nintendo fans of scary games less serious or more casual. He actually said the exact opposite.
The team aims to build something “dark and disturbing and fully horror driven”, but also something that feels very related to Nintendo’s environment and the way they design gear. One of the more interesting parts of the conversation was Bloober Team’s idea that Nintendo platforms often give devs ideas they’d never try anywhere else. That's the one thing the studio appreciates most about the project: the creative limits and opportunity to try new things, says Babieno.
The CEO personally asked fans what types of scary games they would like to see on Nintendo hardware and whether certain system capabilities could fundamentally transform how tension and mood are created. The comments make it sound like the studio is still brainstorming internally and also subtly asking for the public's opinion.
He even mocked the notion that fans would not want to share their finest ideas, since the team working on the game might be developing something similar behind the scenes. That jokey quip had folks pondering what Project M is and what Bloober Team could have in mind.
The company also asked users which horror games released on Nintendo systems had the greatest impact on them.
This means the studio may be looking back at earlier hits to better understand how horror games work on Nintendo’s system. Interestingly, the creator also asked users which season they thought was best for horror games, noting that people’s answers often varied depending on where they lived. Given those odd questions, it sounds like Bloober Team might be delving deeper into player psychology and atmosphere than most development teams.

Whether it’ll translate into new ways to play remains to be seen, but the comments do hint that Project M could be one of the more offbeat horror games on Nintendo’s next generation of systems. People are also speculating when the game will finally be shown to the public based on the claims. Some Nintendo enthusiasts believe the project might be revealed in a future Nintendo Direct or at a major summer gaming event.
Others, however, think the game could still be in the early stages, especially given the major design aspirations Bloober Team has been publicly discussing. Since we don’t know the project's scope yet, it’s hard to tell whether the title is more of a complete revelation or a multi-year wait for release.
Industry types are also starting to worry about just how involved Nintendo could be with the project. It would be a truly unique connection to have a true Switch 2-exclusive horror experience that only runs on Nintendo hardware, especially given that Nintendo is typically perceived as a family-friendly corporation.
But Nintendo has, in recent years, been more receptive to darker, more mature content on its platforms.
That has allowed companies like Bloober Team to experiment with new ideas that, ten years ago, might not have been possible. Talk of Project M also comes at a time when rumors around Nintendo's future system are heating up. Following broader industry discussions on new technologies, upcoming game releases, and shifting software strategies, the platform has become a more common topic of conversation.
Some enthusiasts are already speculating whether tools like Unreal Engine 6 could have a significant impact on the Switch 2's longevity and the future of game development. Others want to know if Nintendo’s pricing strategy for upcoming software releases will affect new-game performance. People are still discussing how well recent games have sold and whether Nintendo's new approach to product releases is starting to pay off in the long term.
The new games may not be the greatest sellers right off the bat, but players appear to be progressively picking up a variety of titles. For now, though, Bloober Team’s mysterious Project M is one of the more interesting unanswered puzzles of the Nintendo Switch 2 era. Hopes and enthusiasm are only building, with promises of a horror experience exclusive to Nintendo that can't be on other platforms.
