Bohemia Interactive Announces 'Take On Helicopters'
News by Jesse Dolman on Mar 31, 2011
Bohemia Interactive, the Czech development studio famous for developing the ArmA series, is working on a new project. 'Take On Helicopters', as the game will be called, builds upon the simulation roots of ArmA 2, but focuses fully on the aerial aspect. In an interview with PC Gamer, Creative Lead Jay Crowe reveals some interesting details concerning Bohemia's upcoming helisim.
Perhaps the most interesting piece of information is the fact that Take On will feature a full-fledged, focused campaign, something which is not too common in the world of aerial simulation. Despite Bohemia's roots in military simulation, however, Take On's gameplay will not be built around combat. Although it is not yet known what exactly the central element of the gameplay will be, Crowe confirms that the team is still looking into ways of rewarding the player that do not involve killing/destroying things.

Another peculiar characteristic will be the ability for the player to land his helicopter and go for a walk. Crowe: "What I would say right now, is that you can still land, get out your chopper and take a stroll around. In fact, some of our scenarios demand it!"
Take On Helicopters will be built on the same engine as Bohemia's previous games, so it remains to be seen if the Czech studio can finally do away with its reputation of releasing games that are plagued by bugs, glitches and other instabilities.
Still, it will be interesting to see how Bohemia will fare now that they have gone into an exciting new direction. Because beneath all the optimisation problems, ArmA 2 offered a ridiculously deep shooting experience. In Q4 2011, we will find out if the Czechs can make a similar impact on the flightsim genre. Let's just hope it's not April Fools.
