Capcom Just Gave Resident Evil a New Face

Grace Ashcroft’s investigation ties family, crime, and the ghosts of Raccoon City together in one deadly line.

People can now pre-order a story that Capcom has purposely kept secret. Resident Evil Requiem will come out on February 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and a known Nintendo system. It will come out in both Standard and Deluxe versions. The calendar is real, the boxes are real, and the countdown has started. From there on out, it's all question marks.

Grace Ashcroft is at the heart of that mystery. She is an FBI intelligence analyst who was thrown from the bright fluorescent light of her office into a world that doesn't need light at all. Capcom has revealed that Grace is the only playable character.

Grace is an investigator who is smart and good at finding patterns, not brave in battle. The shift in tone is toward fear, surveillance, and weak bravery. The choice of style has the power to slow down a player's heartbeat before speeding it up.

When Grace opens her case file, it starts with the Wrenwood Hotel and a very serious crime. The investigation has something to do with her mother's death. Alyssa Ashcroft was a reporter for the Raccoon Press during the Outbreak era of the show.

This lineage changes the story from a business plot to a personal one. It turns a headline into a gravestone and a cold case into a map. The past isn't just a setting. That's the reason.

Capcom's signs point to a return to places that helped make the franchise what it is today. Requiem is both a journey and a provocation because it talks about Raccoon City. It makes you wonder what is still going on in the ruins almost 30 years later. The company has also made it clear that the hooded figure that has been seen in the trailers is new to the series. There is a promise of new fear woven through old ash.

Choice is turning into a way to cause stress. Players can choose between first-person and third-person views in Requiem, which lets them adjust how close they are to the fear without breaking the story. One lens makes the hallway narrower, and each step is a decision. The other one brings back social awareness and a traditional rhythm. Together, they change the vision from a switch to a design.

As always, there is a lot of talk about heroes coming back, but the only thing that stays the same is care. Capcom has described why having a huge action lead would throw off the balance of Requiem's horror-first style. Viral "leaks" about certain icons have already been debunked by people you can trust. It's always the same message from the studio: Grace is the main goal, and surprise is not a marketing plan. It's a tool for telling stories.

The first day's deal is pretty clear. Standard gets you the game and a bonus outfit. Deluxe adds extras and cosmetics, and there's a physical Deluxe that comes in nicer packaging. Capcom is laying out platform parity and start dates ahead of time, and regional collector details are coming out in waves. After getting the signal, you should lock down a slot and wait for the next trail.

The reading of Requiem feels like a calm buildup to a series that knows how to get loud. A lead that is weak. A crime scene with a past. A city that can still be heard through the rubble. Capcom is building tension in empty space, letting the lack of something do the work until the next reveal. The best play for people who are ready to lean in is easy. Put the date away, follow the path, and pay close attention when the lights go out.
