Cory Barlog, director of the renowned God of War, spoke at the Devcom conference at Cologne, Germany to share details about the game's early development. According to GameSource Norse mythology wasn't the only setting considered for the game and that Inca, Hindu, and Egyptian mythological settings were considered.
According to images provided by PlayUnexplored, we get a sense of what characters such as Aterus would look in this earlier images. With Atreus featuring much more wavy hair. According to Barlog, Egyptian mythology was considered seriously but ultimately it was Barlog's decision to dedicate themselves to Norse.
In the images, we can see what looks like to be Anibus character charging the father and son along with could be seen as a Sphynx.
These concepts could be used in a future title as Barlog has stated he's interested in bringing the series to other settings. So it's possible that these concepts could become a new game in the future.
God of War is now available for PS4.
