GOG.com Taken Down

Sunday it was announced that classic PC games site Good Old Games (GOG.com) was shutting down. Polish publisher CD Projekt, from The Witcher fame, claimed “GOG.com simply cannot remain in its current form”.

The online store specialized in selling oldschool games to run on modern systems, without DRM, at very democratic prizes. Sadly, it is probably this lack of DRM that may have done it in at the end. From their Twitter account, they made clear that it was hard pleasing people without DRM support, saying: "Sometimes it's really hard being DRM-free... hard to keep things the way they are and keep management and publishers happy :(."

Their website was taken down momentarily, but change is on the horizon, as they state: “This doesn't mean the idea behind GOG.com is gone forever. We're closing down the service and putting this era behind us as new challenges await.

Also, people who have bought games through the store are reassured they can re-download these purchases later on.

Developments on the matter are supposed to be updated on their Twitter and Facebook page.
