GTA 6 Hype Keeps Building as PlayStation Promotions and Trailer Rumors Start Lining Up

Between Game Informer teases, PlayStation ads, and strange storefront changes, it’s starting to feel like Rockstar’s next big reveal could be getting close.

The conversation around GTA 6 is starting to heat up again, and this time it feels like several different pieces are lining up all at once. You already know the game is officially targeting a November release window, but that lingering fear of a last-minute delay still hangs over everything surrounding Rockstar’s biggest release. Even with that uncertainty, the recent activity from PlayStation and a few strange industry developments are making people feel a lot more confident that things are moving exactly as planned.

One of the biggest talking points right now revolves around Game Informer. Longtime GTA fans immediately noticed how Rockstar handled coverage for GTA 4 and GTA 5 years ago. Back then, Game Informer was heavily involved in exclusive reveals and major previews, so naturally people started paying attention after a recent post from the outlet began circulating online.

The post talked about upcoming coverage for several games before mentioning that the magazine’s next issue had already shipped and that a “redacted” title would appear on the cover next week. The message used four separate redactions, which instantly got fans connecting the dots to “Grand Theft Auto 6.” That alone obviously does not confirm anything, and people are fully aware other games could fit the same structure. Still, the timing is what keeps the speculation alive.

At the same time, people also understand Rockstar’s reputation when it comes to secrecy.

The company has never exactly been relaxed about leaks or early reveals, which makes the situation feel strange. It is hard to imagine Rockstar allowing someone to casually tease a major cover reveal if it truly involved GTA 6. Then again, the teasing itself is creating discussion everywhere, and there is no real downside if Rockstar already plans to start marketing again very soon.

That is where the rest of the speculation starts to matter more. If the teasing were the only thing happening, most people probably would not care much. But the Game Informer tease is landing right in the middle of several other odd developments tied to PlayStation and Take-Two.

Another rumor currently making the rounds claims that GTA 6 pre-orders and a possible third trailer could arrive around May 12. There is no confirmation behind that claim, but people started digging into the timing after noticing something unusual on the PlayStation Store. The storefront currently has no active deals section, with the page apparently set to return on May 13.

Normally, PlayStation always has some kind of ongoing sale running, so the missing deals tab immediately stood out.

At first, many assumed it was simply a bug, but the May 13 return date made people start reading into it more seriously. The theory is that PlayStation could be restructuring the storefront ahead of GTA 6 pre-orders because of how massive the launch traffic will likely be. Even if that sounds dramatic, there is a real argument behind it. Huge game launches have already caused problems for digital storefronts before, and GTA 6 exists on a completely different level of anticipation.

You are talking about a game that could potentially overwhelm digital stores within minutes once pre-orders go live. Some fans genuinely expect servers to struggle the second the game becomes available for purchase. From that perspective, temporarily simplifying parts of the storefront does not sound impossible at all.

The timing also lines up with Take-Two Interactive preparing for another earnings call. That part matters because earnings calls are usually where delays, release windows, or major financial expectations become impossible to avoid. If GTA 6 were going to slip out of its planned launch window again, many people believe this would be the moment to announce it.

That pressure is precisely why recent PlayStation activity feels important.

PS4 users have reportedly started receiving direct messages and emails encouraging them to upgrade to a PS5 because GTA 6 is on their wishlist. Some of the promotions specifically mention the November 19 launch date while telling users to “get ready” for the game on PS5.

The marketing push is impossible to ignore. You do not usually roll out that kind of advertising campaign unless there is strong confidence behind the release plan. Of course, if the game gets delayed later, PlayStation can always swap the date and keep the same advertisements running. Still, the amount of effort that Sony and its partners have already put into the campaign suggests that they believe the current schedule is solid.

At the same time, not everyone is thrilled about the way these promotions are being handled. Console players have increasingly started seeing ads pushed directly through their systems, including popups tied to wishlists and upcoming releases. It is becoming more common across gaming platforms, and many players feel like the experience is slowly turning into constant advertising every time you boot up a console.

Even so, it makes sense why PlayStation is leaning so heavily into GTA 6.

Thanks to Sony’s marketing agreement with Rockstar, the game is essentially being treated like one of PlayStation’s major holiday releases even though it is not actually a first-party exclusive. Recent PlayStation promotional material reportedly grouped GTA 6 alongside major upcoming PlayStation titles, which only reinforced that idea.

That partnership matters because GTA 6 is expected to sell consoles on its own. Plenty of players will likely buy a PS5 specifically to play the game, and Sony clearly wants PlayStation to feel like the default home for GTA 6 in the minds of consumers. Marketing rights have always worked that way in gaming. Even without exclusivity, companies still try to create the impression that the biggest version of a game belongs on their platform.

That strategy becomes even more important this year because of how PlayStation’s release calendar currently looks. Outside of games like Marvel's Wolverine, GTA 6 is basically functioning as Sony’s biggest holiday attraction. Meanwhile, Xbox has multiple major releases expected within the same window, including Halo, Gears, and Fable.

With all of that happening at once, it feels like the groundwork for GTA 6’s next major marketing phase is already being prepared behind the scenes. Legal teams, advertisers, and platform holders are likely spending months getting ready for the flood of promotion that will come once Rockstar officially starts the countdown to launch.

Even with all the speculation, though, we still keep expectations somewhat realistic.

A third trailer may not show up immediately. The safer assumption is simply that Rockstar will reveal more before the end of June. With PlayStation holding the marketing rights, appearances at Xbox showcases or events like Summer Game Fest seem very unlikely. A standalone Rockstar reveal or a PlayStation State of Play presentation, makes far more sense.

At this point, the feeling around GTA 6 is less about whether another trailer exists and more about how close Rockstar is to starting the final marketing sprint. Once the next trailer arrives, the entire industry will probably shift into full launch mode for the remaining few months before release.
