Guerrilla Games gears up for a 2027 release with cross-gen plans, a live-action film, and an ambitious Horizon 3 multiplayer spin-off.

Along the way, the Horizon series has become one of PlayStation's most valuable assets over the past ten years. Horizon Zero Dawn was a big change for Guerrilla Games in 2017—it was very different from the grimy, violent tone of their Killzone series. Since then, it has grown into a multimedia empire.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was a massive success on PC and reminded Sony of the potential of multiplatform and cross-gen releases, yet again. The game took place in a lush, post-apocalyptic world full of robotic animals and tribal societies, all held together by the game's red-haired main character, Aloy. It was an instant hit, and people loved how beautiful it looked, how interesting the story was, and how strong the main character was.
Since then, the universe of Horizon has grown a lot. With more than 32 million copies sold across the series, Sony has no problem putting a lot of money into the brand. Now, there is Horizon: Forbidden West, Horizon Call of the Mountain, a VR experience, and even a LEGO Horizon Adventures game that is fun for the whole family.
And it's still not done.
Sony is reportedly getting ready for Horizon 3, the next big game in the series, which is likely to come out in 2027. Even though neither Sony nor Guerrilla Games has confirmed the leak, it comes from a reliable source and fits well with PlayStation's current hardware and development cycles.
So far, what we know points to a game with huge goals. Horizon 3 is supposed to pick up where Forbidden West left off in terms of story, with the rogue AI Nemesis set to be the main bad guy. Nemesis is a galactic threat that was hinted at the end of the last mainline game. He or she will definitely raise the stakes a lot.
But that's not the only growth that's coming.
Sony is also developing a Horizon multiplayer game, simply calling it Horizon (previously known as Project Skyline), which is said to be based on the Monster Hunter series. It is said that players will work together to fight huge robotic beasts, which makes sense given the world's ecosystem of machines. A live-action Horizon movie is also being made, which is part of Sony's larger plan to bring its successful video game IPs to TV and movies, similar to how The Last of Us is being turned into an HBO series.
The most interesting twist? Horizon 3 could be a cross-generational game that comes out on both the PlayStation 5 and the PlayStation 6, Sony's upcoming next-generation console. And the best part is that the Horizon multiplayer Demo might be released this year.
This has caused a lot of talk among fans. It's an open-door move, on the one hand. A lot of people who own a PlayStation 5 might not be ready or able to afford to upgrade to the PS6, especially since the cost of hardware is going up so fast. The PS5 Pro costs around £700/$700 already, and the PS6 is likely to be even more expensive. Sony makes sure that its current users don't miss out on one of its biggest games by keeping Horizon 3 available on both platforms.
Some people worry that a cross-gen release could slow the game down. Games made for both generations often have to lower their technical goals to work with older hardware, which could mean that the PS6 can't offer as many new visual and gameplay features. There aren't as many big differences between console generations in terms of raw power, but some people say that real next-gen games shouldn't be tied to last-gen hardware.
Still, Guerrilla Games has a history of making polished, high-quality games in all of their titles. They've shown that they can push PlayStation hardware to its limits with games like Zero Dawn and the bigger Forbidden West. They probably know how to do a satisfying cross-gen launch better than anyone else.
Thanks to the new main game, the live-action version, and the multiplayer spin-off, Horizon is going to be one of Sony's biggest multimedia IPs. It's no longer just a game series; it's a whole world of entertainment.
Horizon 3 looks like a big moment for the series, whether you're interested in the story, the gameplay, or just Aloy's getting better looks. If the rumors are true, get ready to go back into the wilds. Just make sure your machine is ready for PS5 or PS6 before you go.
