NBA 2K20 MyTeam Trailer is a Disaster, Highlighting Casino-like Games
NBA 2K20 takes a massive step backwards for the franchise and video games
News by Grayshadow on Aug 29, 2019
Sports games have been decaying in quality over the years. With publishers releasing yearly titles with little changes and oversaturating them with microtransactions. NBA 2K20's latest trailer is the best example of this, with the MyTeam trailer featuring Casino games that offer random chances of earning in-game currency and other prizes.
While the link between loot boxes and gambling are still being debated by politicians this trailer is simply sick. The trailer consists of slot machines, roulette and other games you would expect in a Casino. All yes, the infamous cards from the previous game are back. So as you play your casino games you can collect random cards as well.
What adds salt to the wounds is that this game is rated 3+ by PEGI. And a majority of viewers caught this, with the video at 58,000 views, 100 likes, and a whopping 7.4 dislikes. Honestly, 100 likes are way too much for this video.
in the developer's blog for NBA 2K20 this is stated:
Personally, I spent a lot of time playing NBA 2K19’s MyTEAM mode. Perhaps more than I’d care to admit. Having had the full year to reflect on its innovations and improvements, I was left very impressed with the huge step forward from 2K18 to 2K19. Flash forward: I’ve been playing MyTEAM in 2K20 for some time now, and I can honestly tell you the advances made this year are considerably more impressive thanks to the solid foundation established in 2K19. The feature set this year was very cleverly crafted to address the feedback from the community, while also strengthening the mode’s strongest traits.
This isn't new as the special card system has been part of the franchise since NBA 2K13.
NBA 2K20 launches this September 6th for PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
