The Nintendo Direct is one of the most anticipated events of the year, and a new study of the company’s prior events suggests it may be held again around the second half of June. There is increasing talk of Nintendo’s next big summer event. Nintendo hasn't officially announced its plans, but new reports and community conversations have helped narrow down the most likely dates for the presentation.

According to recent reports from those working in the gaming industry, Nintendo’s release dates over the past few years have followed a definite pattern. Nintendo has been moving its Direct presentations later in June, away from the usual early weeks when significant gaming announcements are often made, as E3 becomes less relevant as the main summer gaming showcase.

The debate was bolstered by a recent study of Nintendo’s recent presentation history. Rather than critiquing the group-play of announcements with competitors, the focus of their analysis was Nintendo’s standard timetable and how the company distinguishes itself from Sony and Microsoft by not aligning its major announcements with theirs.

Last year was an unusual exception for Nintendo.

Nintendo didn't hold its usual Summer Direct in 2025 because it was mostly focused on the debut of the Nintendo Switch 2. Nintendo skipped a June show and went with its big hardware-focused Nintendo Switch 2 Direct earlier in April. This event was the company’s major way to unveil and make news about the new console.

Still, Nintendo did something in June with the Donkey Kong Bananza Direct on June 18, 2025. This reinforces the assumption that the corporation still wants to show at that moment. The pattern is considerably more pronounced if you look further back. Nintendo’s main June Direct presentation in 2024 was held on June 18.

This was a year after the firm had a Nintendo Direct on June 21, 2023. A Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Direct and a Nintendo Mini Partner Showcase were held in late June 2022. Now look at these dates together, and you have a pretty obvious picture. Rather than fight head-to-head during the busiest time for Summer Game Fest announcements, Nintendo seems more and more content to wait until the industry begins to quiet down to make its own announcements.

Industry followers think this is a purposeful approach. By hosting its own event rather than being part of the PlayStation and Xbox showcases, Nintendo’s news is more likely to garner headlines and generate social media engagement without getting lost in the crowd of other announcements. This has led many experts to believe Nintendo would aim for the latter half of June for its next major exhibition.

Most individuals consider the week starting June 15 or the week starting June 22 as the most likely time window. Nintendo normally publishes games on a weekday; thus, the most likely days are Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday in such weeks.

The possible showcase may be around June 16, 17, or 18, or June 23, 24, or 25.

But those projections are becoming increasingly realistic, and lifelong Nintendo fans know the firm is still incredibly hard to predict. In some cases, Nintendo has followed well-defined historical trends, but it has also built a reputation for unexpected announcements and unpredictable release timing. But many remain convinced the data leans heavily toward a mid-to-late June presentation rather than an earlier Summer Game Fest appearance.

The corporation has often opted for a more independent schedule rather than immediately adding to the already-packed early June news cycle. This autonomous technique has brought Nintendo significant attention for its announcements while avoiding direct comparisons with its competitors' shows. There has been no official confirmation yet, but fans are growing increasingly anxious for a presentation around mid-month.

Thursday, June 18, and Wednesday, June 17, are the most talked-about periods, and they seem like they could be perfect times for a full-on Nintendo Direct presentation. Until Nintendo reveals its hand, anticipation will only build—and all eyes will remain on when the company will once again command the summer spotlight with its next big reveal.
