Dubbed as the ‘most ambitious and advanced football game ever’, Konami released a press statement that highlights the key points on what fans can expect this year.
The main new feature and reason for their self-confidence is the Active AI system, which they’ve devoted the majority of their time to. This dictates the majority of movement off the ball, so where defenders would usually follow the nearest player and leave huge gaps to exploit, now they close down space, hold their line and defend zonally to cover. Attacking wise, players will now made dummy runs, draw defenders, and full backs will make bombing runs down the wing without hesitation.
They also stress that their Teammate Control system gives the user a greater sense of control, allowing the control of two players simultaneously, flicking your analogue stick you can take control of a second player, whilst your first man retains possession of the ball.

“No other game allows users so much control over their team, and PES 2012 ensures that the days of gaps in defence and shouting at teammates to make a run are long gone. This is a very exciting time to be a PES fan.” claims Jon Murphy, European PES Team Leader for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH.
In addition to this they have also improved shooting, control when possession is lost, one-on-one situations for attackers and defenders, animations, the addition of touchline managers, a more rousing match day atmosphere, and replaced the horrendous penalty system that has been in place the past two years, opting for the classic behind-the-player view.
Konami were also keen to stress that they have once again retained the licensing for the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Super Cup.
Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 is dated for October 14 in Europe on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC. No release date has yet been announced for the US.

FIFA responded almost immediately to the press release of their rivals by unveiling the new UK box art for FIFA 12 that features Wayne Rooney for the seventh year running, coupled with Jack Wilshere, who has been going from strength to strength, bagging Arsenal’s player of the year accolade last season. The US box art is yet to be revealed and usually features an American player in some capacity.
FIFA 12 is dated for September 27 in the US and September 30 in Europe.
