Pro Evo Update
News by Craig Bryan on Nov 02, 2011
It’s now become a long-standing tradition for fans of the Pro Evolution Soccer and Winning Eleven (the Japanese equivalent) series to show their displeasure at the standard of goalkeepers in the release code. Fumbling the ball when they should be catching it, parrying it into the path of oncoming strikers when they should be punching it, and generally standing still in some zen-like state as the ball slips passed them into the net.
It is something the Japanese developers have looked at it in recent years, after gathering feedback from the PES community at large and have attempted to address some of the issues they’ve have been plagued with over the years. What has come from it is keepers who are now more aware of their surroundings, some saves that are simply out of this world, and a tendency to punch when faced with pressure from a tricky cross.

Will Konami finally keep their keepers in Cech?
However, there are still big issues that remain and as with any tradition the complaints roll on. Where the trend seems to be bucked this year though is with the news of a patch coming sometime this month, directly addressing the problem at large. While the translation is a little sketchy, loosely translated as, “more comfortable playing,” the general gist points to improved goalkeepers, free kicks and penalty kicks.
They also mentioned a modification to the online mode, limiting certain circumstances to prevent cheap tactics being adopted by some of its users. There will also be a change in game plan configuration to make it easier to view the stats of a player.
This will be the second patch Konami has released in as many months, with one coming directly after the games initial release to update team squads and formations, as well as some extra licensed boots. It’s currently unconfirmed, but it looks that Xbox 360 users will either get a larger patch file, correcting a common run-bug that crept into the code, or they will release them as two independent patches.
