Rayman Remake Reportedly Set to Release in 2026
Ubisoft is finally giving Rayman fans something to cheer about — but the future of the franchise may depend on the success of a long-rumored remake.

Fans of Rayman, it's time to put on your old-school glasses. This is the first time in years that Ubisoft has talked about one of its most famous mascots. New reports say that a full-fledged version of Rayman is being worked on under the code name Steambot, and the game is expected to come out in 2026.
There's more, though. The sources say that Ubisoft has plans for a brand-new Rayman 4, though some conditions must be met before the project can go forward. Ubisoft's first step in bringing Rayman back to life is a remake of an old game. Reports mentioned that the project is moving along extremely well, which suggests that the studio has already made a lot of progress.

Ubisoft hasn't announced which game is being remade, but most people believe it will be the original Rayman, the smash-hit platformer from 1995 that introduced the world to the hero without arms or legs and went on to sell millions of copies.
If this reboot does come out in 2026, it will be the first big game in the series in more than ten years. The last major Rayman game was Rayman Legends, released in 2013. It received good reviews, but it didn't sell as well as Ubisoft's big hits like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry.
The fact that Rayman 4 is mentioned in this report might be the most interesting part. The report states that Ubisoft is considering developing the game, but only if the version meets their own standards. This means that the outcome of a brand-new entry depends on how well Steambot does. Rayman 4 is currently planned to be released before the end of the decade, which means fans could see it sometime between 2028 and 2029 if the project proceeds.
When you compare that to titles like Assassin's Creed, which usually take five to seven years to make, Ubisoft has done a pretty good job. The shorter development cycle suggests a smaller budget and a tighter output pipeline. This could be good for Rayman because it will keep the project on track and not get too big.
Some Rayman fans might be torn about the idea of a remake coming out before a real sequel. In today's game market, a remake is a safer business move, even though many people would rather Ubisoft start a new adventure right away. By bringing Rayman back through a new version of an old game, Ubisoft can see if people are interested while reducing the risk to their finances.
To make a profit, big-budget franchises like Assassin's Creed and Far Cry need to sell millions and millions of copies. This means that the games take longer to make and have higher risks. On the other hand, Rayman does well as a middle-tier brand. The production costs are lower, and it doesn't have to sell 7–8 million copies to be worth making. Ubisoft would keep investing even if the game only did moderately well.

This approach also aligns with an overall trend that is gaining momentum in the business world. Some publishers are starting to see that smaller, well-known IPs can be valuable when paired with their bigger hits. If Ubisoft can get Rayman to work again, it could lead to the return of other game themes that have been dormant, both in Ubisoft's own catalog and in other companies.
Even though nothing is certain, this story is much more positive than anything Rayman fans have seen in years. Rayman has always felt like an afterthought in the series, with Ubisoft focusing on other games while ignoring Rayman. The fact that Rayman might get a remake and a fourth game shows that the character still has a chance in today's gaming world.
Right now, we just have to wait. Ubisoft hasn't officially mentioned the project yet, so we don't know which game is being remade or which studio is in charge of making it. But if Steambot does well when it comes out in 2026, fans may finally get to see Rayman again in a brand-new journey before 2030.
While they wait for the hero without limbs to return, Rayman fans will have to wait it out, cross their hopes, and maybe play Rayman Legends one more time.
