Sony May Make Another Handheld Console
Another PlayStation handheld console coming soon?
News by Grayshadow on May 24, 2018
Sony's handheld consoles saw great success in Japan but in the west, the reception was less apparent. The PSP, while powerful, wasn't as popular as the cheaper and better supported Nintendo DS. The PSP Go and PS Vita failed to generate much excitement as well due to lack of os noteworthy titles and an expensive price tag in the west but thrived in Japan.
Sony attempted to give the system a fighting chance with free games through PlayStation Plus and PS4 support but it became clear that Sony wasn't supporting the system with a lack of first-party games. However, according to Sony Interactive Entertainment's John Kodera Sony could release a new handheld system in the future.
This could be the Nintendo Switch-like system that featured controllers locking into a screen. Both sides feature what appears to be a DualShock 4 controller.
With the end of the PS4 life cycle coming to an end Sony may be considering future additions to the PS5. With handheld support for gaming on the go.
