South Korean Curfew

If you thought it bad when you were given a gaming curfew by your parents, that’s nothing compared to what South Korea are forcing upon gamers. The country has decided upon a gaming curfew for underage kids that will affect no fewer than 19 games, the most popular of which is Maple Story.

Amongst those games are the four most popular games in South Korea, and when all 19 are put together they make for a massive 79% of the total market share. Strangely though Lineage 2 – another of the Korean game giants – was excluded for the list and its absence hasn’t yet been explained.

The curfew will effectively force gamer’s offline for a six hour ‘blackout’ period, but are given three options as to when this is – 12am to 6am, 1am to 7am, 2am to 8am. There will also be a forced reduction in internet speeds for people who are logged in for an extended period of time.

This is the latest measurement taken in an attempt to control the amount of time children are spending with their computers and further actions will be taken in the future depending on its overall success.
