Summer Game Fest 2026 Delivers Major Reveals Across Gaming

Capcom's Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake, Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, Guild Wars 3, Alien: Isolation 2, and more headline one of the event's strongest showcases yet.

Summer Game Fest 2026 just wrapped up, and Geoff Keighley deserves some credit for this one. It was a pretty solid show all throughout. Sure, there were a few slower stretches here and there, but he did exactly what people were hoping for: a strong opening, big announcements in the middle, and a genuinely great closeout. And here is a full rundown of everything that was announced at Summer Game Fest 2026 and why it matters.

Right out of the gate, Summer Game Fest 2026 kicked things off with Resident Evil Code Veronica. The remake has been rumored for a while now, so it was not exactly a shock that Capcom is going ahead with it; they have been on a serious remake run lately. Code Veronica is one of those entries that a lot of people never actually got around to playing back in the day, so having a full remake with the RE Engine is a genuinely exciting prospect.

Resident Evil Code Veronica looks exactly as polished as you would expect from Capcom right now.

They are just rolling through releases at this point, and Code Veronica is set to launch in 2027 on PS5, Xbox, Switch 2, and PC simultaneously. Studio MDHR also showed up at Summer Game Fest 2026 to announce that a brand new hand-animated Cuphead game is currently in early development. If you remember how long the original Cuphead took to come out, with multiple delays, years of work, all that hand animation.

You can probably guess this one is still a fair way off. On top of that, they also have Mighty Cuphead Adventure in the works, which leans into a more retro 8-bit visual style. Two Cuphead projects at once is not something anyone really saw coming. Alien Isolation 2 finally got its trailer reveal at Summer Game Fest 2026. It is heading to Xbox, PS5, Switch 2, and PC.

The original Alien Isolation got a pretty rough reception from some critics when it launched, but the concept, a pure survival game where a xenomorph is actively hunting you with genuinely smart AI, was always a strong one. It is good to see that concept getting another shot over a decade later. Gen ATLAS is the next game from the team at Uppercase Arts, and it draws obvious comparisons to Shadow of the Colossus.

It involves giant robots doing battle, but there is also third-person action shooting woven in. The giant robots felt like the real centerpiece, though; there is a moment in the trailer where one just absolutely punches another one's head clean off, which sums up the energy of the whole thing pretty well. Like the studio's previous work, it communicates a lot through the environment rather than heavy dialogue, and the scale of it is clearly a big part of the appeal.

Stranger Than Heaven is locking in a January 15, 2027 release date, which means 2027 is already off to a fast start.

The game is adding a number of real-life celebrities with their full likenesses, including Snoop Dogg and, perhaps more surprisingly, Tupac Shakur. As Snoop Dogg mentioned, everything was already done with Tupac Shakur's estate, so it's one that will be up for debate. It's a rather unconventional path that the game could take, and time will tell how well it goes down with the public.

Another one of the games that made an appearance at Summer Game Fest 2026 was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin, and its mere existence was already quite a relief considering some had speculated it might have been canceled for good. The fact that not only is it not canceled but is actually developed by Platinum Games is another excellent indicator.

While the comic version of The Last Ronin takes an extremely different approach to the Ninja Turtles storyline, being dark, heavy, and emotional, with an intriguing mystery about who the last turtle alive is, the game will be perfect if it is done right. If you haven't read the comics and intend to experience it first-hand, then it is highly recommended to hold back on this particular game until you do.

Considering the developers, the combat in the game should have significant weight and depth rather than being fast-paced and flashy, like Ninja Gaiden. Another appearance at Summer Game Fest 2026 was a Gundam game. You are watching the trailer: big robots, anime visuals, and then suddenly it is a Gundam, and then almost immediately it cuts to something called Gundam Rogue Orbit,  and moves on.

There was not much to go on, but for Gundam fans, it is at least on the radar now.

Guild Wars 3 was one of the most anticipated reveals at Summer Game Fest 2026, and it delivered. The game is set for a fall 2027 launch on PC and PS5. The fact that it is coming to console is a notable move for the series. There is also an interesting angle here around the Xbox Project Helix; since it is positioned as fall 2027 and will be on PC, there is a decent chance it ends up on Helix by default.

Even if that has not been formally announced yet, Guild Wars built a lot of its reputation on not requiring a subscription to play at a time when World of Warcraft was dominating the MMO space, and all signs suggest Guild Wars 3 is sticking with that model while also trying to rethink what an MMO can actually be in terms of combat and world structure.

Virtua Fighter Crossroads turned out to be something different from what most people expected. Rather than a straight-up arena fighter, this is a full action game with a real story behind it, built around hand-to-hand combat. Sega is building the Virtua Fighter universe out in a more expansive way, and fleshing out that world through a narrative action game is a genuinely interesting direction. It is due in 2027.

Soul Genesis from Bloober Team is a 3v1 asymmetric horror multiplayer game currently announced for PC. Bloober Team has a lot in the pipeline right now, and this is one more to add to the list. The Star Wars Zero Company release date was also confirmed during Summer Game Fest 2026, with the game landing on August 27.

Stellar Blade: Blood Rain is the follow-up to Shift Up's original game, and it is picking up the story directly from where things left off.

The biggest immediate impression from the trailer is just how fast it looks, and Stellar Blade was already a fast game. Eve appears to be leaning much more into agile hand-to-hand combat this time around rather than relying on her blade. The art style is immediately recognizable as a Shift Up production.

Stellar Blade: Blood Rain is still in early development, so realistically it is probably a few years out, but Shift Up is clearly committed to Stellar Blade as a long-term franchise, especially as they continue growing into a publisher role. Tifa Lockhart was confirmed as a Street Fighter 6 character for the upcoming season, which had been floating around as a rumor in the fighting game community for a little while. That one feels like a natural fit.

Now, the closeout. Before Summer Game Fest 2026 even started, Geoff Keighley got ahead of the obvious elephant in the room, Highguard. He had announced a live multiplayer service as a big moment at a previous show, and that game shut down before the next Summer Game Fest even arrived, which is not a great look. He came out and acknowledged it directly, letting everyone know that this year's closeout was going to be a narrative single-player game instead. And then he delivered Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

The official name for Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 is Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, which will be released in spring 2027 on all available platforms, including Nintendo, Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. All platforms are updated as they wait for the end and all this, on a brand new, just released Xbox-Series Rebirth and Switch-2. But it was not all that; behind the name of the game, it was revealed as much more than that.

The Highwind comes early on in the game, but the game goes out of its way to show you leaping from it and diving into the world below.

The Weapons, which in the original Final Fantasy 7 were mostly optional super-bosses like Ruby and Emerald Weapon, look to be woven directly into the main story this time around. The character-switching combo system returns, and both Vincent Valentine and Cid are confirmed as playable characters. Vincent's combat, in particular, had a strong Dirge of Cerberus feel to it, with the aiming and targeting.

There is also a new system that functions a lot like a job system, letting you shift between different builds on the fly; they showed options like Black Mage, which points to something pretty deep in terms of build customization. The trailer for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation marks the culmination of a project that began almost 10 years ago at E3, when we first saw Cloud and Barrett.

What's most surprising about this series isn't that it's a remake. In this instance, there will be an entirely new story that will follow an entirely new set of rules in terms of how it is told. It is clear from the Final Fantasy 7 Revelation trailer that this is completely distinct from Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth.

As always, there was the usual mix of things people might appreciate, and the constant ads near the end can make anyone feel the urge to fast-forward, but the line-up itself was nothing short of impressive. Overall, for a show that has been running seven years now, this was easily one of Geoff Keighley's stronger efforts yet, and that is genuinely saying something.
