The Independent Games Festival has been host to some of the biggest indie games of the past few years. World of Goo, Braid, Super Meat Boy, Minecraft – all of them appeared, and subsequently won awards at the festival. This year, in addition to the usual cash prizes, all finalists will be given an opportunity to distribute their games through Steam on PC, Mac, and Linux.

The categories this deal applies to are: the Seumas McNally Grand Prize, Excellence In Design, Excellence In Art, Excellence In Narrative, Technical Excellence, Excellence In Audio, and the Nuovo Award. All area judged by a panel of, well… judges. Each category will have six finalists, save for the Nuovo Award, which will have eight. The finalists will be announced in January, the winners at the Game Developers Conference in March.
