Venom Breaks Free: Insomniac Revealing Their Next Marvel Game in September?
With Wolverine in development limbo, eyes turn to Venom as leaks, rumors, and September speculation set the stage for Insomniac's next bold move.

Insomniac Games is used to building momentum. Marvel's Spider-Man started an era, Miles Morales kept the fire going, and Spider-Man 2 added to the fun in a way that worked with the first game. Now, though, everyone is looking at Venom, which is deeper and more primitive.
Yes, the rumor is back in full swing, and Marvel's Wolverine isn't the main topic of talk anymore. Instead, there are more and more rumors about a separate Venom game. We might not have to wait long for the first look either, if what people inside the company say is true.

Venom was supposed to be the main character of a Spider-Man 2 DLC update at first. That material, which was about the flame cult and Cletus Kasady's rise, was thrown out. But, like a good symbiote, the idea changed over time. What was once meant to be an add-on is about to become a full-fledged game on its own, which is a huge opportunity.
Based on Insomniac's work on Spider-Man 2, Venom's short playable sequence gave players a taste of his raw power and destructive anger. But it was only a taste. Fans wanted the full Venom experience, including the ability to do acrobatics, crawl up walls, flail his tentacles, and swing through New York like the bad guy version of Spider-Man.
People don't just want a tough Venom like the Hulk. Longtime fans want the version from the 1990s, when he was the shade to Spider-Man's light and was quick and scary. That's what makes a game that stands alone so interesting. If what the news says is true, that's exactly what we'll get.
A new story says that Venom could be shown off at the PlayStation State of Play event in September or at The Game Awards later this year. That fits with Insomniac's past taste for September releases, since both the first Spider-Man game and Spider-Man 2 came out that month.
People say that the Venom game is more important than Miles Morales, even though it's not as big as Spider-Man 2. This addresses one of the main complaints about Miles Morales: its length and scope. This isn't going to be a fancy addition. This is its own animal.
Venom is getting more attention than Wolverine for a realistic reason: the foundations are already in place. Since Venom is similar to Spider-Man, the foundations for how to move around, fight, and build the world have already been set. On the other hand, Marvel's Wolverine needs everything to be made from the ground up, including the tone, movement, and battles.
It makes sense for Insomniac to hold off on releasing Wolverine until it can really make a splash. Huge leaks of the game are still going around the internet. The talk? The Wolverine might not show up until 2027. Venom, on the other hand, is now ready to go into speed.

Fans are also ready, not just the figure. People are getting angrier and angrier about how Venom has been used. Even in Spider-Man 2, his small job left a lot to be desired. Players were given hints that they could swing through the city, fight enemies with smooth brutality, and use all of his comic book weapons. It never did come, though.
This stand-alone game is about to finally live up to that dream.
One of the most important things we don't know is which Venom we'll get. In Spider-Man 2, Harry Osborn formed a link with the symbiote, which caused some fans to disagree. But Eddie Brock, who was the first Venom, is official in this world. Several mentions in the game have proven that he exists. Could this game fix things so that Brock is the host?
It would make sense for the story and the marketing. Brock is a well-known figure, and if Insomniac wants to connect Venom to a long-running story, they should use him. The door is wide open for either a story that looks at the events before Spider-Man 2 or a sequel that shows the symbiote's new host.
People also think that this game might be connected to the Cletus Kasady/Carnage DLC that was canceled, which could pick up storylines that were left unfinished in Spider-Man 2. A great place to start for a grim, darker story arc? Of course.
Another reason to be happy is that Insomniac isn't trying anything new here. The studio knows how to make movement feel smooth, fights feel powerful, and the world design feel like it has meaning. They already improved how symbiotes work in Spider-Man 2, and PC modders have even unlocked early versions of Venom's powers, like his ability to fly and deal heavy damage.
But this time, there's no reason to follow the rules. At least when it first comes out, the stand-alone Venom game is likely to only be available on the PlayStation 5. That means there are no longer any limits between generations. There's no need to make designs for the old PlayStation 4. There's no reason to wait. You can expect faster load times, denser worlds, more complex cinematics, and more ways to play.
Don't forget about Wolverine from Marvel. It's still going on. It's been clear from Insomniac that the game is being made. But since a lot of the early footage has been shared, it's clear that they're being careful now. What they don't want is for the official reveal to be less exciting than what fans have already seen on private channels.

Still, three years after the first video, the lack of news has made people doubtful. That's why Venom is now in charge of the talk. Not only is it easy to make, but it's also probably safer to market and closer to being ready.
It's not impossible that ads for both Venom and Wolverine would come out around the same time. In fact, a double-header at the next State of Play or Game Awards could help Insomniac take back control of Marvel's gaming world.
The table is ready. The desire is there. And if even half of these leaks and theories are true, Venom by Insomniac will be stronger than people thought. It's not a side story; it's a new main story. A chance to see a rougher, darker part of the Spider-Verse with all the power and polish that only comes with the next generation of consoles.
And since September is getting closer, you might not have to wait as long for proof as you think. Prepare. Venom is already here; he's not coming.
