The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Preparing for a Major Reveal as Gamescom Details Emerge

A leaked Gamescom booth image, a planned Witcher-focused livestream, and an internal demo in Warsaw are giving fans their clearest indication yet that CD Projekt Red is preparing a major reveal for Songs of the Past.

CD Projekt Red appears to be preparing something significant for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt at Gamescom, with several recent developments pointing toward a substantial reveal for the rumored Songs of the Past expansion. The project has already been confirmed for 2027, but details surrounding its story and setting remain limited.

Now, an alleged photo of CDPR’s Gamescom booth has surfaced, along with information about an internal demo reportedly shown in Warsaw. Together, these developments suggest the upcoming showcase could be considerably larger than the brief glimpse previously expected.

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Geralt Standing

The alleged booth image, shared online by Witcher-focused account Boys Brokenheart, appears to show the CD Projekt Red booth while it is still being constructed.

Scaffolding, tools, and unfinished sections fill the area, but the branding is already visible. The booth reportedly features the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt logo alongside Songs of the Past branding. More importantly, one section appears to contain artwork showing what looks like a celebration or festival taking place near a body of water.

CD Projekt Red has not officially confirmed the image itself, so treat it as an alleged leak rather than official information. However, the artwork has already attracted attention because some fans believe the celebration could represent Beltane, an important festival associated with the Witcher universe.

That interpretation becomes more compelling when compared with artwork previously released by CDPR. Some older promotional material is now seen as early teasing for Songs of the Past, even though its connection to the expansion was not known at the time.

The water visible in the alleged booth artwork is also becoming an important part of the speculation surrounding the expansion’s location. For months, fans have been debating whether Songs of the Past will take place in Velen or somewhere nearby.

A Polish insider known as UV previously discussed the expansion and suggested that the story could instead take place in Sedaris, a region west of Velen. That claim has gained more attention because several details connected to the expansion appear to line up with the area.

Sedaris is located in the Northern Realms and is positioned west of Velen, while the region itself has connections to elven history. One particularly striking detail involves the sword shown in the promotional artwork for Songs of the Past. The weapon appears to have a flower-shaped pommel that resembles an elven design.

Dandelion could provide another major connection.

According to the same speculation, Sedaris may be tied to Dandelion’s origins, although the exact details of his birthplace and family history are not fully established in the available information. Even the character’s family name reportedly connects to the region through Witcher lore.

None of these details confirm Sedaris as the expansion’s setting, but when combined with the coastal artwork, the elven sword design, and the possible Dandelion connection, the theory becomes increasingly compelling.

The biggest development, however, may have nothing to do with the leaked artwork. CD Projekt Red recently announced that it will run REDstreams live from the Gamescom show floor for five consecutive days. The broadcasts will mark the fifth anniversary of the REDstreams program.

What makes the schedule particularly important for The Witcher fans is that CD Projekt Red’s senior community manager has confirmed that at least one of the streams will be dedicated entirely to the franchise. More details are expected around 8 or 9 a.m. Central Time on August 26, the first day of the REDstreams block.

The timing has led to speculation that CDPR could split its reveal across multiple events. Opening Night Live could provide the first trailer or cinematic reveal, giving viewers their first official look at Songs of the Past. The following day’s Witcher-focused REDstream could then provide a more profound look at the expansion, potentially including gameplay or a developer presentation.

An internal demo shown in Warsaw is making the situation even more compelling.

According to information shared online, CD Projekt Red recently held an internal screening of the Gamescom demo for Songs of the Past. One attendee reportedly praised the return of Geralt before revealing that the development team had worked to strike a balance between showing new content and avoiding spoilers.

If the report is accurate, the existence of a demo containing enough narrative material to create spoiler concerns could suggest that the Gamescom presentation will be more substantial than expected. It does not necessarily mean the public will receive a lengthy gameplay demonstration, but it indicates that CDPR has a more developed presentation prepared internally.

Gamescom Opening Night Live will take place on Tuesday, August 25, at 2 p.m. Eastern Time. If CDPR uses that event for the first major reveal, the presentation could potentially introduce the expansion through a trailer before the more profound information arrives on the show floor.

From August 26 onward, CDPR is expected to host its presentations, although there is no indication that regular Gamescom attendees will receive a traditional hands-on demo. A guided presentation would be a more likely format if the company wants to control how much of the expansion it shows.

The release window is another major point of discussion. Songs of the Past is confirmed for 2027 and is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and XBOX Series X|S. CD Projekt Red originally planned the expansion for 2026 before moving it to 2027, meaning the next major question is not whether the game is coming but when it will actually launch.

A spring 2027 release is one possibility, with April or May being particularly interesting because it would give the expansion an opportunity to arrive around the anniversary of The Witcher 3.

CD Projekt Red previously released Blood and Wine in May 2016, making an anniversary-window launch an appealing marketing opportunity. A 2027 release could also give the expansion enough space away from other major releases, potentially allowing CDPR to give Songs of the Past more attention rather than competing directly with another massive game.

There is another reason the timing could matter. Expansions can now be considered for major awards in ways that were not always possible in the past, and CDPR’s Blood and Wine remains one of the strongest examples of an expansion being treated like a major release.

The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past Geralt Standing

If Songs of the Past delivers a large amount of new content and maintains the quality associated with The Witcher 3, it could potentially become part of the awards conversation in 2027. That would give CDPR another opportunity to demonstrate how much the studio can still do with Geralt’s world.

It would make sense for CDPR to connect the mod update with the expansion if the company wants to launch both as part of a larger Witcher 3 refresh.

Releasing console mod support shortly before a major expansion could also give players additional reasons to return to the game. However, there is currently no confirmation that the two updates will arrive together. Fans may therefore have to wait for the Gamescom presentation before learning whether the long-awaited feature is still planned for 2026 or has moved into 2027.

For now, none of the rumored location details or leaked booth imagery should be treated as confirmation. The Sedaris theory builds on several separate clues, while CD Projekt Red has not officially verified the alleged Gamescom photo.

What is confirmed is that Songs of the Past is planned for 2027, Geralt is returning, and CDPR has prepared a significant Gamescom presence for The Witcher. With a Witcher-focused REDstream scheduled immediately after Opening Night Live and an internal demo reportedly already being shown, the next few days could finally reveal just how ambitious this new chapter of The Witcher 3 is.
