Before starting off, here's a disclaimer for you—everyone's play style is not going to be the same, so let's get that out of the way, but there are still some basic rules that you must know of, which can come to your aid as you progress in Alien: Fireteam Elite.

The most important thing you must keep in mind to succeed in the game is teamwork. With that being said, let's get started.

Do Not Run Off by Yourself

There are places in corridors or rooms where, when a player passes a certain point, you spawn three to twenty xenomorphs alongside elite morphs.

Also, keep in mind that the numbers vary according to your difficulty. Do not lose sight of your teammates.

Watch for an Ambush

If you hear anyone say that, it means you have a Prowler near you. Prowlers, as in Aliens, will be awaiting a character to get close, then grasp them and deal damage.

Prowlers can be shot to get them off the wounded player, but if you spot them beforehand, you can make a surprise attack, dealing damage instead.

Always Go for the Head

Like Thanos says in Infinity War, "You should have gone for the head," you should as well.

They take more damage that way, and weapon mods have weak points, so you can take things down more easily.

Elite xenomorphs will struggle too, but only if you're accurate with your aim, going for the head.

Watch Your Motion Tracker

Remember, there are places where xenomorphs spawn when you pass.

Sometimes they just lie in wait until everyone has left them behind and then attack you from the back.

You must tread carefully, or they will pincer attack you while you're not paying attention, and you'll be left eliminated.

Your tracker will show blue pings for elite xenomorphs and orange for the heavy-duty elite xenomorphs. So stay on the lookout.

Always Equip Something for Range and Something for Close Quarters

This doesn't necessarily mean a rifle and shotgun combo, but keep in mind that when you're holding out against the xenomorphs, there's a likelihood that they are going to be in melee range with you.

Get something to counter that problem as well as something to wear them out from afar.

Watch Where You Shoot

From the intense difficulty onward, you have to take friendly fire into account. So you need to watch yourself from getting in the crossfire, as well as beware of shooting your teammates.

Under ideal circumstances, your team will maintain a general front, left, and right formation to avoid shooting one another.

However, when things go south, which they do pretty often. Formation usually isn't what you'd prioritize, so you still have to keep your shots in check.

Having a fallback plan will save you from a world of trouble and, moreover, health. Keep in mind, if you're taking point, constant movement from left to right is a recipe for disaster because you will get hit eventually. On Extreme or Insane difficulty, you will be killed.

Dodge Roll Can Save You

It takes a while to get the hang of the tells, but each xenomorph, from the basic runners to elite morphs, has a tell. The quicker you learn, the better.

If it's a tell by an elite, then they're probably going to grapple attack you. On the highest difficulties, you're dead meat.

Stay vigilant. Look for when they coil up, then roll to the side to avoid the attack. Usually, when missing, there is a brief cooldown where you can light them up or make some space.

Weapons Level for All Classes

This is not a dealbreaker because as you take weapons on missions, they gain XP as well, and as you level your weapons up, they gain a star.

Each weapon has a max limit of four stars. You can see what each star adds to your weapon when you select it on the bottom left of your screen.

There are not many individual benefits, but every little buff is invaluable on the battlefield.

A bonus tip for you: level the pulse rifle to 4 stars with a Gunner or even Doc, who can also use rifles, and you can use the pulse rifle at 4 stars.
